@Anagram: we will have the same set up as you. We already have one Hemnes dresser in our room and we are getting another for baby. Ikea quality or not, I love these dressers!

I bought a vintage dresser at a consignment & painted it, then I just plopped the pad on top. Right now there's nothing keeping it on but I'm going to add rubber shelf liner when she gets more mobile. I just like the look of the dresser and pad more than the changing table... plus, you can reuse the dresser when babe is older!

@ladyfingers: Funny-- I was searching old posts about this and found the one where you were deciding which dresser to get :)

Glad to know the wood frame isn't necessary and that the nonslip stuff is good enough! It's not like you could ever leave the baby alone on the table either way.

We have this, it's 30" high and perfect.

http://www.landofnod.com/oak-park-elementary-dresser/f4735

We put some nonslip cabinet liner ($4 for a roll at Target) under the changing pad and that keeps it in place without the need for a wooden frame.

We used a regular dresser (36" height, which works well for us), and put this Soft Gear changing mat on it, which is *fantastic* - our LO absolutely loves it and can hang out on it for ages: http://www.amazon.com/Soft-Gear-Deluxe-Changing-Mint/dp/B006OKU7O4/ref=pd_cp_ba_0 . We stuck a grippy drawer liner under it to make sure it didn't damage the wood.

@swurlygurl: Good point-- if we get a solid dresser from the baby list on Craigslist, I shouldn't care that much if we don't get a ton of use out of it. There are so many on there-- probably for this reason (they look baby-ish).

@Anagram: We're doing the exact thing! We have that dresser in black-brown and it won't fit in our bedroom (based on closet/window locations) so we're going to put it in the 2nd bedroom for a future LO!

@Foodnerd81: I'm not necessarily a fan of the door w/ shelves - I agree with you that it makes it look like a piece of furniture you bought as part of a baby set. We got it SUPER cheap though, so I won't mind replacing it.

@Cara M. 17: We found it on Craigslist - sorry, not very helpful! Haha. I feel like I saw similar pieces at Nebraska Furniture Mart/Buy Buy Baby/Babies R Us though. There is plenty of room right now (10 weeks) to change her without that first shelf getting in the way - when she's older though... not so sure.

@swurlygurl: this is exactly what I am looking for! Where did you find this? Do you feel like you have enough height when changing LO? I worried that there isn't enough room between the changing pad and the bottom of the first shelf.

@Foodnerd81: I like the look of it, and it's definitely cheap for the space you get---but it's not a solid wood piece or anything. It's like most Ikea furniture. I really like it, and it's great for us....but i can't see keeping it 20 years or anything. Not sure if that helps you at all! =)

@Anagram: Funny-- I literally just saw that dresser on Craiglist and was thinking it would be perfect :) I need our room measurements again to see if it will be too wide for the space though.

Do you like the Hemnes? It seems like one of the sturdier dressers at Ikea and I like the dark wood color.

Since we're going to be in a 2 bedroom condo or apartment by then (if we can ever find the right place!) and we're planning on keeping LO in our room the first 6 months, we are just going to put a changing pad on top of our existing Ikea Hemnes dresser, like the picture.

For the baby diapers, wipes, etc, I'm going to have cute colored storage cubes or baskets and just keep them on top, like the second pic.

Follow up question-- a lot of the changer/baby dressers seem to have the door with shelves behind it plus drawers. Is that helpful? I feel like that makes it look more baby-ish and I hope to keep the dresser for a long time, well past babyhood. But I'd rather it function best now and deal with it later if the door/shelf is better than all drawers for changes and such.

The furniture set we got (Babi Italia Pinehurst) came with the wodden frame and the main reason I like it is because now that she is older it keeps things on top of the dresser (she has a tendency to kick a lot during diaper changes. I like that the one we have only bolts on to the back of the dresser, so it will come off nicely once it doesn't need to be a changer anymore.

We use a vintage dresser with a changing pad on top. I had my uncle make the wooden frame for me for cheap and I just painted it. Couldn't believe the price of the wooden frames! I do like how it keeps the pad in place and how it looks finished.

I got the tutorial via Lay Baby Lay. I'll come back with a link when I hop on the computer if you want.

I'm not sure what the height is, but here's a pic of mine. It works perfectly for us - we don't even have anything keeping the changing pad attached to the dresser. (I just obviously don't leave DD on it by herself)

We don't have the wood piece, our has a snap in the back of the dresser that attaches our changing pad, and we have a non-skid pad underneath. We have had no issues. I'm not sure the height, but it's a standard dresser from a furniture store, it works great.

The changing pad we bought at BBB came with snaps that go into the back of the dresser so it doesn't move. I don't know how tall our dresser is, got at a baby furniture store but it works great.

We have an Ikea Trondheim 3-drawer chest. I don't know how tall it is off the top of my head ... I think it's. bit taller than 30, though. We never had a need for any sort of lip or edge, as the cooshee changer we have has one of its own. Also, we put non-skid cabinet liner under it and that sucker doesn't move.

We are planning to put a changing pad on top of a low dresser as a changing table. Couple of questions about this, though--
-Is the wooden frame that goes around the changing pad necessary, nice to have, or totally unnecessary? (Like this set up: http://www.potterybarnkids.com/products/catalina-dresser-and-changing-table-topper/?pkey=bchanging-tables) Or is there a way to affix a changing pad to a regular dresser without the expensive wood piece?

-How high is your dresser/changing table set up? They seem to usually be around 30"-- is that a good height? I'm open to getting a non 'baby' dresser but am having a hard time figuring out what height is best.

Thanks!
