I had contractions from 34 weeks til the day I delivered (my nurse got all excited on the day of my induction when she hooked me up to the monitor. She said "You're already contracting!" I said yeah no shit. Lol)
They went from mild one minute to painful the next. I swore I was in labor 100 times. They would even get consistent and on a pattern. Even went to the hospital twice. It was frustrating but nothing ever came of it.

I had period like twinges in my lower back, more so if I walked a fair distance. This went on for weeks, maybe even a couple of months before I went into labour though.

I essentially had no early labour. At 9pm at 38w2d I wiped and had bloody show with not so much as a symptom prior to that, so I knew labour might be impending. At 9:30 I bent over to pick something off the floor and my water broke. I headed to the hospital to get checked out and had no contractions until 3am. Within an hour they were 3 minutes apart and strong, and LO was born 6 hours later.

@septca: @LovelyPlum: thanks for sharing your experiences! I have been having increased mucus/leukorrhea this week and just now there was a smear of blood... so at least I know SOMETHING is happening in there!

My BH turned into period like cramps on a Sunday, and I went into labor that Wednesday. We actually ended up in L+D on Sunday, because I thought it was the real deal. Of course, they stopped when I got there-figures!

It sounds like you're doing all of the right things! I will say that I knew it was active labor when nothing I did-Tylenol, shower, bath, heating pad, wine, sleep-made them tolerable. It was MADDENING though, because I had regular contractions for 4 weeks before I had LO. Good luck, and hang in there! I hope baby is here soon :)

Before about 38.5 weeks, I had nothing. BH every once in a while, but they were mild and inconsistent. At 38w4d, DH and I went to an event that require a lot of walking (about 4 miles) and standing for about 3 hours. The next afternoon - at 38w5d - my water broke out of the blue while I was squatting to change over the laundry. Very mild and inconsistent contractions started that night, and were pretty consistent by the next morning. That day, I did a lot of things (walking, dancing, bouncing on the ball) to keep my labor going and to try to increase the speed of my contractions. I did not get really uncomfortable until the next night, more than 24 hours after my water broke, right around the time I hit 5-1-1. DD was born at 39 weeks exactly, 45 hours after my water broke.

I would love to hear what your experience was with early labor!

Over the past couple of days my braxton hicks contractions have been ramping up, and I have begun to get period-like cramps around the bottom of my uterus. Yesterday they got very regular and strong while I was up and moving around. At one point we were walking and I had to stop because it felt so intense!
They stayed regular through drinking water, taking a hot bath, and then sleep. They petered off this morning around 5:30 and have been sporadic ever since. :meh:
