@happybluebird: First I want to say congratulations. So happy to see this posting! As far as ultrasound, with the twins we had ours at 5w6d and only saw the gestational sacs. With our first pregnancy we had one at 6w4d and were able to see the gestational sac, yolk sac and fetal pole.

I had one at 5w 4d with my first, and expected to see nothing, but actually got to see the little flicker of her heart beating!

I had 2 done before 6 weeks, and we didn't see a heartbeat on either of them. The first at just past five weeks there was I think just a sac. Then at about 5w4d there was a sac and what looked like it could have been the embryo but no hb. A week later measuring 6w4d there was a strong heartbeat. I am now almost 13 weeks and as of this morning there's still a strong heartbeat in there. I had an SCH and vanishing twin and bleeding, so it was scary, but it did pass. Don't worry too much if you don't see much the first time around. Congrats!

@HappyBluebird: I am not sure this will be helpful but I had my first US today at 6k4d and they saw the yolk sac, the baby very clearly, the heartbeat, and even HEARD the heartbeat! So, maybe at just a week earlier there will be something good for you to see! :) Fingers crossed for you!

@HappyBluebird: Goodness, I'm 14 weeks and just thought to myself how I'm still not feeling as if this might actually happen yet. With LO, that feeling didn't go away until I was at least 20+ weeks! Sending lots of prayers and love your way!

@HappyBluebird: CONGRATS!! So happy to hear you are pregnant again. I had my first u/s right around early 5 weeks, and they couldn't see anything besides a tiny sac that she wasn't sure was a pregnancy. They were able to confirm that it was in my uterus, but couldn't even confirm it as a pregnancy.

I will go in hoping to see an intrauterine pregnancy and know that it's very possible that we won't see much more.

@2PeasinaPod: And thanks! I'm still a little shocked myself! I find I'm still in the I can't believe/ don't know if everything is ok stage. I expect to be in this stage for awhile!

I had one at 6ish weeks and saw a tiny bean with a heartbeat. However, they warned me that I might not see a heartbeat since it was so early. Good luck but try not to stress!

@HappyBluebird: CONGRATULATIONS! I didn't know you were pregnant

As for early ultrasounds, I had my first ultrasound with this LO at 5w4d and I was able to see a fetal pole and a little blob that looked like a kidney bean. I also was able to see a flicker of a heartbeat which was super early to see that...so I wouldn't expect to be able to see that at yours.

As long as they see a sac at the first ultrasound, that's a great sign! Once you pass 6 weeks, they should be able to see a fetal pole, and maybe even the heartbeat flicker.

@HappyBluebird: I think the key is to go in there with the expectation and hope of seeing an intrauterine pregnancy and that's all. That's already one step in the right direction. Anything else will be icing on the cake.

@HappyBluebird: yes I did with both pregnancies/babies. With my first there really wasn't anything to see and I had to go back a couple of days later (and there we saw a sac and fetal pole). With my second there was a sac and fetal pole, no heartbeat yet though.

@HappyBluebird: I had an ultrasound at 6w and all we saw was the sac! We didn't even see a fetal pole at the time. I went back at 8w and there was a baby and a heartbeat.

I had 2 done before 6 weeks - 1 done at an urgent care clinic and 1 done by my OB just a couple days later. The one done at urgent care you could see the sac but not the fetal pole thing and they told me nothing was there. The one done just a few days later by my OB (still under 6 weeks along) you could see the sac, pole and even a heartbeat!

I had one around that time to rule out a repeat ectopic. All we saw was the sac- looked like a little bubble. But it was an amazing little bubble! I went back around 6w3 or 4 days, I can't remember exactly, and saw the heart beat at that time. Good luck!! :goodluck:

I had my earliest at 6w and could see a heartbeat but the doc said if I had come the day before they probably wouldn't have seen it. I would guess you may see a yolk sac.

I just got off the phone with the nurse from my OB's office and they want me to go in for an ultrasound before they see me at almost 6 weeks.

My Ultrasound is scheduled for 5w4d and I'm worried we won't see anything. Unfortunately I don't have a choice in going a little later, as I need the early US to rule out another molar pregnancy. I'm already so nervous and thinking that something is wrong this time. I feel like if we don't see anything, the emotional, nervous wreck half of my brain will take over the rational part.

Did you have an ultrasound this early and did you see anything? If not, did you go back soon after?
