No advice, but I feel you! My inverted nipples were tethered so they had a hard time everting. Once they did though they stayed everted. I wish I had tried breast shells the first tkme around though!

@littlejoy: A nipple shield is used during nursing and this would be used before nursing or even before delivery.

I used a shield with LO1 but since LO had some success drawing out the nipple I didn't see how it was helpful. My issue was the amount of pain involved in LO drawing out the nipple so I was hoping to work on it before LO2 arrives.

I use a nipple shield; going on 12 weeks now. I have the Breast shells and the latch assist thing too but we nurse okay with the shield so we will just keep on going...

Are you talking about a nipple shield? A good LC will be able to help you find a brand that fits your breast, and helps with your specific issue. I have many friends who needed to use them (for flat or inverted nipples), and they really worked!

@Corduroy: not exactly the same but wanted to chime in. I got them at the hospital with LO#1 and wish I had them sooner. I had one inverted and one flat and nursing was awful at the beginning. I wore the shells like nonstop during my leave and was able to successfully nurse past a year. This time I was planning to start earlier but would love to hear what your LC says. Good luck!

I have an inverted nipple which caused me a lot of pain and stress in feeding LO1. I ultimately gave up on that breast at 10 weeks and continued one sided nursing until 16 months.

This time around I want to look into breast shells prior to delivery since that sounds like the best chance of success. I have an appointment with an LC at 36 weeks. I don't know what to expect but honestly I'm not feeling much hope that it will do anything. I'd love to hear anyone else's experiences with them prior to delivery.
