@Dandelion: hmmm...I wore drawstring PJ pants. My scars are on my upper abdomen and belly button, so I wanted something lower than that. I would think PJ pants would go between your section scar and these new incisions, so that would be my preference, I think.

My recovery was pretty simple - the process was a bit tramatic however.

We rushed to the emergency room b/c I had extreme stabbing pain - turns out a gall stone was trying to escape. So the next morning they removed my gall bladder - however the stone did escape and was blocking my stomach or something so a day later I had to have another procedure endosomethingorother - where they went in orally to remove the stone. Once this was done I felt great - before that I couldn't keep anything down because of the stone.

Hoping you have a speedy recovery!

Sorry, I'm horrible at explaining medical things. ;-)

i had mine out a couple of months ago. recovery was pretty easy. especially compared to c section. The only part that was harder was that i had a 16 month LO (instead of a newborn) who wanted to be held and breastfed and i was recommended not to lift anything heavy for a few weeks! I obviously didn't listen to that recommendation, but i did have help the first week which was great. the first 3 days after surgery were probably the toughest, but with each one better than the one before.

right before my surgery, my surgeon asked me what pain meds i prefer for recovery and i said anything safe for breastfeeding. he said none of the ones he was going to suggest were safe and so i said that i had advil and tylenol after my c section and he laughed so much it made me laugh. He laughed because he said "if you got by with advil and tylenol after after a c section, then this will be a walk in the park!"

@Dandelion: my friend and dad have had theirs out. The hardest thing for my friend was the gas got stuck up in her shoulders and that hurt the most in recovery. You need to walk to get it out. If it wasn't for that, she wouldn't have really realized that she even had surgery, it was that easy.

I had mine out in December 2007, after almost a year of misdiagnoses. Compared to the 12 months of hell that preceded it, the surgery was easy-peasy. By the time I had it out, my diet was pretty much bland chicken, rice, and applesauce, so I was thrilled with how much better I felt afterwards. A few tips I came to realize:

*I was super anxious beforehand, so I asked for and got some relaxant in my IV before I went in for surgery. This was my mother's suggestion and a genius move.

*Anesthesia makes me very sick, so I asked that they put Zofran into my IV before I woke up. It was a very good idea.

*Take it easy for a few days afterwards. Have lots of fiber/Colace on hand. I took the Vicodin for a while, but it made me super constipated. I ended up snapping it in half and taking a half with 2 Motrin after a day or so.

*ETA: bring loose pants with you for when you go home. I have 5 tiny scars, and I didn't want them rubbing on the waistband.

Honestly, I don't think recovery was that bad. I haven't had any long term effects at all, except for feeling a zillion times better. The only thing I had to do was modify my diet a bit-I don't tolerate fatty foods nearly as well as I did before I got sick, but that's all for the good. We eat many fewer processed foods now. The other thing I will say is that I can't eat at chain restaurants like Applebee's or Chili's very frequently, because they are fattier foods. If I do go there, I try to stick with something lighter, like a salad. But again, not the worst thing in the world!

Good luck, you will be great!

@MrsADS: Thanks for the zofran tip. I'll write that down for my question list for my pre-op.

I was told by everyone that it's easier to recover from than my c section was, which was easy for me, so hopefully they're right!

I'm living on fruits and veggies this week. I tried eating chicken the other night and my pancreas said no. So, I'm eating VERY light.

At least I've lost a ton of weight this month, between delivering M and being sick, lol.

@Dandelion: no long term effects for me. However my former roommate refused to watch how much fat she was taking in and it caused her some problems. We eat pretty lean proteins and other things that aren't super high in fat.

I had mine out in Sept. 2012! Now, I was VERY sick before I had mine out (I had lost 20 lbs from being so nauseous and sick), and I had been in the hospital 3 days already with pretty much no food. That is not the ideal situation going into surgery, but I did fine. They did keep me overnight after the surgery, but it's because I was in crummy shape.

My pain was totally manageable right after the surgery. They will give you strong meds as they finish up in the OR. My worst issue was nausea/vomiting, but that is because general anesthesia makes me so sick - that's any operation, not just gall bladder. My pain started to ramp up about 2-3pm (I had the surgery in the early morning). I was in a lot of pain then. I was so sick (nausea/vomiting) that I refused to take the pain meds which I knew would make me even sicker. Vicious cycle - LOL! Anyway, I took one vicodin that night and I went to sleep and I was fine.

I was very sore after that. But I just took Motrin the rest of the time for the pain. Be prepared that you will have pretty much zero appetite for a couple of weeks. I ate pretty much nothing. My surgeon said that is totally normal. Just be prepared with light foods and liquids - gatorade, apple juice, soup, applesauce, crackers, etc. Also make sure you get a few Zofran pills to take home in case you get nauseated.

I couldn't walk standing straight up for a week or two, I walked kind of hunched over because it hurt my incisions.

Now, I have no long term effects from having it out. I've never had any diarrhea or bad reaction to foods or anything.

I had mine out in 2010 around thanksgiving. Now I will be the first to admit I am a wuss when it comes to stomach and back pain. I has also never had surgery on my stomach before. My gallbladder was removed with a simple scope procedure. I was ok as long as I didn't lay down. The first couple days I took Percocet and Zofran (again wuss). After the first couple of days Motrin worked just fine to control my pain.

I hope that your procedure goes smoothly!!!

Mine is coming out, soon! I find out tomorrow exactly when. Seems like a simple enough procedure, and since I just had a c section, I'm really not that scared of surgery anymore. The doctor even told me that recovery is way easier than a c section, which is great for me, cause my recovery was a breeze!

It'll be an outpatient procedure, so thankfully, no hospital stays afterwards.

Tell me about yours...how long did the process take? How was your recovery...did you need strong pain relievers, or was it really as easy as they say?
