@IRunForFun: ok I'll try this again!

I was induced at 41 weeks, only a finger tip dilated. I received a Folley balloon & pitocin. Both did their job other than the balloon not falling out but getting stuck behind the babies head. Pit turned off & my body took over. I pushed for hours and finally begged for a epidural. Got the epidural, such relief & then couldn't feel a damn thing. Then epi was removed which was torture and I proceeded to fight back labor and a stuck baby in my pelvis. Emergency C section was the best thing id ever heard at that point and it went great. Baby boy did have to be dislodged from my pelvis vaginally and through the section because his head was corked in there! I would have never been able to vaginally birth him....would've been nice to know ahead of time

He was 8 lbs 5 oz

I was induced at 37 weeks for preeclampsia. When I went in, I was completely closed and (I think) 50% effaced. They inserted cervadil at 6 pm on Wednesday, removed it at 6 am on Thursday and I was still completely closed. They started pitocin anyway. Got to one centimeter by 10 am, 3 centimeters by the late afternoon and stayed there. At 4 am on Friday morning, I was still 3 centimeters, so it was c-section time.

@Mrs.KMM: thank you. We are going to decide next week if we will induce. So I want to know and understand what all is involved.

I would be induced because the first baby was almost 10 lbs 21" long. So we are trying to avoid that again of possible.

induced 40+6, ~1cm. Went in at 8pm on a sunday night. Did cervidel overnight and they were going to do pitocin in the morning but i ended up not needing it because the cervidel kicked me into labor by the morning. got epi at noon, baby girl was born after half an hour or so of pushing at 6:30pm.

A "small" 1cm
Not effaced
Induced at 40 weeks exactly. Blood pressure was starting to get high.
12 hours induced labor.
Took epidural because I was tired and wanted to sleep
2 more hours of labor.
Asked for a c-section because I wasn't dilating much. My doctor agreed that I didn't have a good chance of a vaginal birth.

C section went well!

I was induced at 37 weeks for low fluid. No idea what my score was-- I hadn't had any contractions so they hadn't checked yet. I had a vaginal delivery after about 36 hours of labor, only about 20 mins of pushing and minimal tearing

I was induced for low fluid/mild pre-e symptoms at 41 weeks. I didn't have any pitocin or cervical ripening agents - just a catheter to put pressure on my cervix.

I had a cesarean, but it was because LO's heart rate didn't sound good and was getting worse. I was dilating fine (made it to 6 cm).

@IRunForFun: I was induced at 40w6d because I was a VBAC and I wasn't allowed to go past 41 weeks. I had a foley bulb induction, which was 24 hours and did not work to dialate me to 3 cms, but it was enough to break my water. Then contractions started after that, slowed when I got my epidural. I laboured for close to 24 hours, pushed for 3 because she was stuck, and was in the hospital for 3 days after for recovery. The induced birth was much more difficult than my c-section.

I was induced twice at a 1-2 once for PIH and the next for pre-e. First time we started with cytotec and did 2 doses then pit and broke my water vagibal delivery 5 hours later. 2nd was pit for 4 hours broke my water and vagibal delivery 3 hours later. Both great experiences that went really well. Good luck to your friend!

@turkeylurkey: Basically, they insert a foley balloon into the cervix, and then blow it up. A tube is attached to the bulb, comes out of the vagina, and then is attached to the leg in a way that will apply downward pressure from the bulb onto the cervix, helping the cervix to manually dilate. It is my understanding that you typically are 3-4 cm when the balloon pops out.

I was induced at 40 weeks less then a cm dilated, because of weight and my doctors schedule. It took 3 days, ended in a vaginal birth. The only reason I kept going with it was because my water broke 10 hours in.

I was induced for very low fluid at 41+1. Not dilated. I had a round of cervadil, then a foley catheter was placed, which got me to 3 cm. I labored another 24 hours on pitocin and delivered vaginally about 36 hours into the process. It sucked! But less than a csection, I imagine.

Induced at 39 weeks, 0 dilated, no effacement, baby hadn't drop. Vaginal delivery. Good luck! I was worried about my bishop's score the whole week before, but it worked out!

ETA: I'm not good at reading, to answer your other questions - induced for unhealthy placenta, possible growth restriction. Had overnight ripening of cervix, then it took about 8-9 hours once contractions started til baby (about 30min of pushing)

I was induced at 39 weeks to the day for pre e. They started me on misoprostal. Then pitocen, my water broke and I got an epi after 30 hours from the time I checked in. At one point I was advised I would need a c section if I did not progress. I pushed for two hours when my epi failed, it took them around 2 more hours to 'fix' it then I pushed for another 2 hours and she was born 44 hours after the start of my induction. Only one small tear. I was also on IV antibiotics because I had a fever and had two doses of Fentanyl one before my epi and one after it failed. It was rough.

I was induced at 38w5d due to low amniotic fluid. I was maybe 1 cm dilated, but had been since my previous OB appt. They started the first of 3 rounds of Cervadil around 5 am on Thursday. I was finally ready enough to start Pitocin around 11 pm on Friday and LO was born at 11:15 am on Sat. Maybe 15 minutes of pushing and some tearing. It wasn't a bad experience, I was just soooo tired of being in the bed because of the anti-clot pressure things on my legs.

My induction experience was pretty similar to @Mrs.KMM: except that I was 42 weeks already so no idea why she didn't want to budge. I never made it past 3cm and ended up with an emergency C-section.

I was induced about two weeks ago for severe preeclampsia (at 37 weeks). My cervix was maybe a fingertip dilated, high, and posterior (as the doctor put it - doing what it was supposed to do at 37 weeks - keep a baby inside).

My induction started with Cytotec, then a foley bulb, then Pit, then another round of Cytotec, manually breaking my water, then more Pit. After almost 40 hours, I was still only 4cm (the same I had been when the foley bulb came out). I ended up with a c-section for failure to progress. My body simply wasn't ready for baby girl to come out but my pre-e necessitated it.

I was induced for cholestasis at 38w3d. I was only fingertip dilated at that point. I had a membrane sweep at my morning appointment. When I checked in for the induction that night, we started with 2-3 rounds of cytotec. Then we moved on to a foley bulb. Then pitocin. Then the midwife broke my water.

All in, I think I was at the hospital for 28 hours? I pushed for 20 minutes and had no tearing. Kind of a long process but it ended smoothly!

If you were induced with a low Bishop's score, aka you were 1 cm or less dilated and less than 50% effaced, how'd the induction go?

Did it end in a vaginal birth? A c-section? How long was it from start to finish?

What was the reason for induction?
