-Did IUI work for you? --yes

-How many did you do? -- one after a failed Clomid unmonitored cycle

-Were you on any meds? What types? yes. Clomid 100mcg, Gonal-f injectible, Ovidrel trigger shot and then after the procedure on Progestrone & estrace used as suppositories.

-How did it work? Did you use OPKs to determine ovulation? -- I was monitored via bloodword and ultrasound.

-How much did it cost? Don't know, insurance covered save for a $40 copay for each monitoring visit and the procedure visit.

-Did the insemination hurt? -- no -- simpler than my regular annual exam.

-If it was successful, how many babies did you have? 30 weeks pregnant with one baby.

@marionberry: our insurance doesn't cover a penny. Since I have normal cycles we are trying a couple unmedicated cycles so it's keeping the cost down. We're paying $300 or $420 if the procedure takes place on a holiday or weekend.

@leilalou: Thanks for asking this question, as we may be on that path soon. I'm excited to hear other stories of if IUI worked for people. Is your insurance covering most of the cost?

We did two IUIs. The second one worked and we now have a wonderful little boy. We used Follistim which is an injectable drug. I never responded to clomid or femara so when we switched REs she started me on injections. I was a slow responder so I had to do injections for almost 3 weeks each time. The whole time I was monitored through ultrasounds and when my follicles were starting to get ready I had blood tests as well. The first IUI I only had one mature follicle when I triggered. I had the IUI 36 hours later. Not painful at all and I went straight to work after. The second IUI I had 4 mature follicles. The RE had to go through telling me about the risk of multiples and if I still wanted to do IUI. She did give me the choice of either changing it to an IVF cycle or canceling it all together. My husband and I discussed it and were comfortable with the risk so we stuck to the IUI. Two weeks later we found out we were pregnant and two weeks after that we had an ultrasound to confirm there was just one in there. We are lucky and our insurance paid for everything.

my experience probably won't be the most helpful b/c I was in an infertility study, but here goes:
-Our first shot at IUI worked for us. It was our 22nd month trying, 2 prior Chemical Pregnancies, no issues that they could find.
-We had an unexplained infertility diagnosis (you didn't ask that q but i thought it might be helpful.
- i was on either 100 mg of Clomid or Femara - not sure which, it was a double-blind study. But I think i was on Femara b/c my side effects were different than when I was on 50 mg clomid.
-No OPKs to determine ovulation, but lots of internal u/s and bloodwork.
- CD1 i had a Dr. visit and they took 9-11 vials of blood. The rest of my timeline might not be exact but it's as I remember it:
-I gave more blood at CD 9, started taking pills CD 10-14. CD 11 ?i had an internal ultrasound to check the follicles and make sure they were the appropriate size.
-my husband gave me a HCG "trigger" shot on CD 12, and the IUI was scheduled for CD 14.
-my husband gave his sample on-site, and they washed it and prepped it. When I went back to the room, they asked me my name and what I was there for, and had me confirm it was my husband's name on the vial. Then they did the procedure. It only took 5-10 minutes. It caused some slight cramping, but nothing like the HSG. I didn't have to lay down after or anything afterwards.
-After I got a + HPT, they scheduled me for more bloodwork then internal ultrasounds at 5 and 9 weeks. I was released at 9 weeks.
-Our IUI was free b/c it was part of a study, but the procedures, meds and monitoring would have cost $5k out of pocket.
- I will be 15wks pregnant tomorrow with 1 baby.
The whole point of the study, actually, was to get better outcomes from IUI - more pregnancies with fewer multiples.

i did one on my second cycle of clomid. i got the trigger shot so they knew when i ovulated then got the iui. It was all covered by insurance. it did not hurt, but i ended up miscarrying at 8 weeks 6 days just after my re released me to my regular ob.

that was my second miscarriage. the first one happened when i wasn't taking any meds.

I know a couple of people had an IUI here. Would you mind telling me about it? My husband's surgery hadn't given us the results we hoped for. His doctor put him on FertilAid supplements and we have another appointment on 9/24. We should be moving forward with an IUI at that time. I'm so full of questions but am scared to google anything. Here are some of my questions:

-Did IUI work for you?
-How many did you do?
-Were you on any meds? What types?
-How did it work? Did you use OPKs to determine ovulation?
-How much did it cost?
-Did the insemination hurt?
-If it was successful, how many babies did you have?

Some of the questions are kind of personal, so don't feel like you have to answer them all. I'd really appreciate any feedback. :)
