@travellingbee: Woohoo!! I've heard the pineapple thing as well!! Good luck and I look forward to your results. Well wishes!!!

We're very fortunate and have insurance coverage. They're the only clinic in the Houston area that is approved for our coverage. I don't blame you to go somewhere else. I actually know someone in North Houston who is going to a clinic in AZ. They are significantly cheaper (even factoring travel). Someone close to me used the AZ clinic twice successfully!

@travellingbee: did they tell you to eat pineapple? One of the nurses there told me to eat pineapple for the next 5 days. No clue if it worked or not, but I did get a BFP that cycle.

@MrsYellowJacket: good luck with your IVF. They are an expensive place for IVF (although awesome statistics!) and we are trying to avoid it. If we do end up having to do IVF, we may need to go elsewhere. it is all out-of-pocket for me. :(

@travellingbee: Honestly the IUI was the easiest part to me! All the appts and meds leading up to it were more of a pain! I did medicated cycles and I never got an u/s or blood work the day of IUI. My husband got there an hour earlier to give a sample, then once they washed it etc we would go in and the process itself is kind of like a pap smear, really nothing invasive! Sometimes I found the pressure was uncomfortable but not every time, also sometimes the catheter would hurt but only for a second. Then they would have me lay there for 15-20 minutes after.
I did 6 cycles of IUI (and my clinic would do 2 back to back days each cycle). Ultimately IVF gave me my BFP but I know many people who got theirs from IUI and are either currently pregnant or have their baby :) Best of luck to you!!!!!

@travellingbee: I did 2 unmedicated IUIs so a bit different from yours I think, but no, it really didnt hurt. It was a bit uncomfortable but it was over quite fast. I rested on the table for maybe 5 minutes after then went to work! It was all pretty underwhelming BUT round 2 took! BFP last weekend. :) Good luck and keep us posted!!!

ETA just read through the other posts. I also have an inverted uterus and it didnt make anything painful for me. We used donor sperm that was all washed and ready for us when we arrived so the entire thing (in and out) was 45 minutes including waiting in the waiting room. And I fortunately didnt have any cramping after!

Just in case you have a similar experience (and not to scare you!) my 4 IUIs were the same as everyone else is describing, but two of them (1st and 3rd) were a little painful because the nurse doing them had trouble lining up my cervix (I have a tilted uterus). She had to sort of dig around with the speculum which *hurt* but once she got it set up the actual IUI part was a breeze. Just wanted to add my experience so if yours isn't totally painless you don't freak out. Good luck tomorrow!

DH dropped off sample early, 8am. IUI scheduled for 9 (we live 5 minutes away). So we both went in at 9. I don't think they did another ultrasound at that point.

The doctor told us the sample wasn't very good and he would recommend that we do ANOTHER IUI the next day (so two back to back) We decided not to because it was like another $300 or something (our insurance doesn't cover anything) and we'd do it next cycle if anything.

Anyway, my doctor had some difficulty with the getting the catheter in the right place in my uterus. Apparently I have a retroverted/tilted uterus. Because of that, he had a nurse ultrasound the top of my belly so he could see my uterus while he placed it. So it took two attempts and a lot longer than usual. It didn't hurt, though. Just uncomfortable like a pap.

I rested about 15 minutes and then I was cleared to go back to work or whatever. I went back to work but I had a LOT of cramping the rest of the day (more severe than period cramping) - I think this is pretty unusual (maybe from the multiple attempts?). I would have stayed home if I had known it would be bad.

But, I got pregnant from that first IUI so it was all worth it  I'm almost 17 weeks now.

We had bloodwork and ultrasounds leading up to the IUI, but on the day of the IUI it was similar to what everyone else has been describing. Husband drops off sample early, then my appointment is scheduled for about an hour and a half later. I think the process is simple, much like your annual pap. I never felt a thing. Just tried my best to have the happiest, most positive thoughts while I was in the exam room. I have 1 baby from my 3rd IUI. And I'm currently pregnant with baby #2 from my 2nd IUI. Both times, I never really had more than one promising follicle.

Same as the above experiences. No ultrasound or bloodwork day of, as RE determined the day prior that follicles were at an appropriate size. Triggered the night before 6-9pm. Went in the morning to drop off DH's sample. Waited about 1 hr until it was washed and ready. The IUI was fast, just like a pap and then I laid there for about 10-15 minutes. My RE did it two mornings in a row. Unfortunately, both were unsuccessful but the whole experiences was quick and easy. Expect some spotting and cramping afterwards. Wishing you so much luck!

I had two IUIs. Mine were unmedicated so I didn't get an ultrasound. DH and I went together. He provided his sample, then we waited an hour while it was processed. I was given a gown to change into. Then the nurse came in and asked me to verify the name on the sample. The IUI was quick and painless, like a pap smear, the first time. The second one was incredible painful because the nurse jammed the speculum in the wrong place. I laid there for about 20 mins after. There was a little leaking and spotting for the rest of the day.

Good luck!

Exciting!

DH provided a sample, we dropped it off, then waited about an hour. No u/s that day. It was scheduled after my trigger shot. I was really nervous b/c my HSG was super painful, but it didn't hurt at all. Super fast and easy. I spun around the table to elevate my hips after the RE left (no idea if it's necessary, but it doesn't hurt!) Hung out for 30 minutes, I think? Then on my way!

And yes, we had together time that night and probably the next day, too. Cover all the bases!

DH went in and gave a sample a few hours before I went in. (We both worked close by, so we went in separately to minimize missed work.) They didn't do an US, just took me to one of the examination rooms and had me put on the gown. They came in, had me verify the name on the sample, explained what they were going to do and inserted the sample. It was a bit uncomfortable, but didn't hurt. They had me lay down for 15-20 minutes, then I was free to go. I never saw the doctor, just one of the nurses. Good luck! :goodluck:
