But when I asked about bringing her when LO was around 18 months, that is what they recommended. I think it helped a lot to see everything done to me first, and they let me come just me and her, which I was worried about. Maybe LO could go to your appointment with you and then have his shortly thereafter (a week or two) so it is familiar at least?</p> <p>And to prepare, we just talked about going to the dentist to help make sure our teeth are clean, that she would get a new toothbrush and a prize from the prize box. Since this year he is getting a cleaning I've shown him pictures of kids at the dentist. We've also talked a lot about how the dentist is going to brush his teeth and he gets to sit in a special chair. We even practice by having him lay on the couch and we brush his teeth. He told me they don't even attempt cleanings until they are three. Although ours is at 11:00, so not THAT early, but I guess it's what they had available. We're used to having to wait at the pediatrician's office though, so having to wait at the dentist shouldn't be too big of a deal. I know you scheduled the appointment, but the hygenist told me they schedule the kids appts first thing in the morning, so there is no waiting and they have the time to devote. And then she went last week at almost a year and they blew some air in her mouth, checked her teeth, watched her brush and suction ed her mouth I think. It was easy-peasy. She sat in my lap backwards and the dentist laid LO back onto her (the dentist's) lap. Then they counted her teeth and looked at the spacing between, etc. They also painted sealant on her back teeth with a little brush.
