@Foodnerd81: Ahh, I wonder if that's why she has started actually drinking an age appropriate amount? She usually fights her feeds - eating's cheating and all that. A growth spurt! Oh good, I was worried this magical stage of actually eating enough was here to stay. Humph!!!

@illumina: Oh Lordy, it was terrible!! And no, no progress at all!!!

So, we had her in the moses basket, slotted inside the cot in her nursery. She had been sleeping beautifully in there for three weeks. She usually gives me three stretches of sleep from 7pm: 6,3, 3 hours is about standard. So....

....we tried her on the moses basket mattress (just popped on top of the crib mattress), swaddled, without the basket - and she didn't sleep very well at all. She did sleep for short stretches but it was nowhere near her usual sleep. Plus, she looked kinda unsafe balanced on the little mattress, wrapped up like a sausage - not quite stable. So at 5am the first night, I took her out of the swaddle and swapped it for a sleep sack. On a whim, I took the basket mattress out, too, and lay her in the cot. Well, she threw her arms above her head and slept for three hours straight. Great stuff.

The following night, I put her in the sleep sack and popped her in the cot - and she would not go to sleep! Arms flailing about, smacking herself in the face, the works!! By about 11pm, I had had enough of torturing the poor thing and swaddled her. Well, she pinged about the cot in every direction like a hyperactive glow worm! It was quite something to behold. That baby traveled! So back came the moses basket!! She has slept well again ever since.

In fairness, I probably chose a bad time to try. She was at the tail end of a wonder week and she was teething at the start of the week. She hadn't actually got back into a good sleeping routine when I made the changes.....

I know in my heart that she isn't ready to ditch the swaddle or the basket but she really is getting too big (and too rolly) for them. This morning, I had to go and rescue her because she had wriggled down slightly in the basket and could no longer stretch her legs out!

Agh!!

LO slept I in our room in the pack n play for 6 months. She had been sleeping through the night for a good while when she started tossing and turning in the pqck n play. I took this to mean she was ready to transition to the more supportive mattress of the crib. She didn't move all night the first few nights in the crib. Very easy transition, I think because I knew she was ready.

We went back and forth a few times (she started swaddled in the rock and play). We recently switched to the crib with the magic sleepsuit. We did it when her sleep was awful anyway, so we pretty much had nothing to lose. Her sleep wasn't worse, and when we got through the crappy night sleep week she was a lot better. But I can't imagine swaddle weaning without the suit and I know you don't have it over there!

My 1st was 7 months - he went from a p-n-p to a crib with no issues.

My 2nd was 6 months - she went from a co-sleeper to the crib and also didn't have any issues.

The moses basket is super confined (in a good way) and now your DD is in a big open space - its a HUGE change! How do you feel about bumpers? They may make the space feel more enclosed and similar to the moses basket.

@Cherrybee: I've just ordered a mattress protector for when S goes into her cot. It won't be long now... I worry about her moving or turning over in her sleep and hitting her face on the side of the moses basket :( I like your idea of putting the basket mattress into the cot to start with. Swaddle weaning... hmm, that will be fun too! I'll check back to this thread later for tips! Good luck though!

I tried at 1,2 and 3 months with LO#1 and she wouldn't stop crying. :( We tried again at 4.5 months and it went well.

LO#2 had a smooth transition at 3 months!

Up until now, DD has slept in a moses basket. She was in our bedroom until 10 weeks, when we moved the moses basket into her room, placing it into her cot. Her sleep regressed a little - she started waking for the 1am feed again (she was going 7pm - 4am, 4am - 7am) but that may be a coincidence. I'm not too worried about it - she will drop it again when she is ready. Apart from that, it went really well and I'm happy with the decision.

Our next steps are swaddle weaning (she has started rolling so it's a must) and removing the moses basket (she is getting too big for it!).

Today, I tried her without the basket for her naps. She would not settle.... but settled instantly when I took the mattress out of the moses basket and popped it under her (like a little foam camping mat!) in the cot. I'm not sure about letting her sleep like that at night though, when I'm not watching, as the raised surface makes her rolling onto her face considerably more likely.....

As for swaddle weaning - ugh. It's not working out. She waves her arms around and freaks.out. I fear we are going to have to suffer a few dreadful nights!!

How did it go for you? Was it a smooth transition?
