@HazelEyes: it's going on now! The one in the beginning of the year you can also get other big gear items (swings, high chairs, etc) and then the fall one is usually JUST car seats. Here is the info:

We went with a Graco Atlas in similar situation and it's ok. I find the straps a little hard to tighten though.

We considered the Nautilus too because I liked that it became a backless booster. The Frontier doesn't become backless, it just becomes a seatbelt positioner. But the incredibly easy and fast install on the Frontier sold it.

@HazelEyes: I only like the Britax more because of the click tight installation, using the belt.

Another vote for Britax Frontier. We love it and my 4 year old who is off the charts for height still has a ton of room.

We have a nextfit and just moved my baby up to that and the 3 year old into the frontier. Im a big fan. The clicktight installation is so so easy- it makes the nextfit latch installation seem hard, which says something! I find the straps to stay out of the way much better with the frontier than the nextfit.

Britax seats are all on sale right now, I've seen them 25% off at a lot of places besides babies r us, but the trade in event is going on right now. Albee Baby has a couple of colors for a few dollars less.

Oops. Forgot to say why we like the Nautilus. It seems comfy and is easy to get into. DS can do the top buckle and pull the bottom one out so it's ready for me to snap it closed. It's a 5 point to 65 lbs, a high back booster to 100 lbs then a backless booster to 120 lbs. It's relatively easy to disassemble and clean, although time consuming. It has a cupholder. It's an easy install.

@Emsmems: Isn't that only in the fall? I thought I missed it! Thanks for the heads up! Although, I don't know if we'll be ready to get rid of the bucket this month... I have to figure out something to trade in

Last I heard, the Britax Frontier has the highest harness slots so therefore lasts the longest for harnessing! We have a Nextfit now and that's what we plan to move to as well! If you are in the US, don't forget about the Toys r Us trade in event to get a new seat 25% off!

I would look into a 3-in-1 combination seat at this point. Something that converts from a forward facing harness to a high back booster, to a no back booster. We went with a harmony defender for many reasons, the main being that it will harness up to 65 pounds and has a 10 year expiration period, so we would likely get some use out of it with #2

You're looking for a combination seat. Here is a list of recommended seats. Also you're in luck - there are no true safety ratings on car seats. All seats on the market had to pass very strict testing, and it's pass/fail. The results aren't public so all seats are safe if they fit your child and are installed correctly.

We have this Britax Frontier. It's a 5-pt harness, FF, easy to get in and out of and extremely easy to install. The only drawback is that the straps are hard to tighten but I manage to do it, it's just a bit of a pain so I try to keep them the same length most of the time.

Carseats.

Here's my deal: I have an almost 3yo who is 31 lbs and still RF in a Chicco Nextfit, which I love. I also have an 8 month old in a Chicco bucket. I"m trying to plan our next carseat purchase and I'm overwhelmed.

I"m trying to be thoughtful about this and I think it doesn't make sense to get another convertible, so the plan is to bump the baby up to the Nextfit and give the 3yo a new carseat-- possibly one that can eventually be a booster.

At this point, I'm ok with changing him to FF, so I dont think I need a 4-1, but after that I"m stumped.

I do want something comfortable, (obviously) high safety ratings, extended 5 point harness use, and easy to get in and out (I love that padding on the buckle of the Nextfit that helps the crotch buckle from getting lost under his bum!).

Help carseat gurus! What do you recommend?!
