@ballerinabee: No way! You're totally welcome here. I was hoping this would be a place where we can discuss our issues/wins, so that we can help one another!

I have no great advice, because we're still in the throes, but Sadie has had an aversion to the potty too. I'm just trying to use rewards that she really wants and lots of positive encouragement. Lots of happy dances and talking about how fun the potty is. Today I've done the whole day waist-down naked and it's been a better day. So maybe if in the morning you just take his diaper off when he gets up, then don't put anything else on him, it'll be easier than taking the diaper on & off all day. I'm not sure how you feel about screentime, but the only way I could get Sadie to pee on the potty yesterday was to let her watch a show she liked. She was so zoned into the show she forgot she was on the toilet, and peed.

@photojane: I hope this isn't threadjacking, and if it is and I should start my own thread, just tell me!

How have your littles responded to being naked? C will tell me that he needs to "poop" (he calls any bodily function poop, even though he almost always means pee), and I put him on the potty, but he refuses to go. He holds it until I put his diaper back on. I've tried leaving him naked from the waist down and he freaks out, gets really upset, and won't calm down until I put his diaper and pants back on him. He does not like to be naked unless it's to get in the bath or shower...

It seems like he should be ready (he'll be 3 the end of next month), but he's really resisting using either the small potty we got him or the potty seat that fits on the big potty. Just refuses and cries if DH pushes the issue / tries to keep him from getting up and off the potty.

I know he won't go to college in diapers, but DH and I are so ready for him to train!

@Rainbow Sprinkles: So you just kept her naked any time you were home for a while? And, yeah... we had her in undies yesterday, but she's been waist-down naked today, and seems to be doing better with the accidents.

@Kemma: That's awesome! Good luck! How is she doing?

Also, I found that until she really recognized the sensation of "needing to go," we only had success when she was nude. Putting undies on her was confusing (maybe it "cushioned" her feeling of needing to go?) and she would have accidents when we were pee training.

@photojane: Miss A has decided to potty train herself and is having her first day in undies so I'm crossing my fingers that it goes well! We've been talking about it for awhile but I hadn't planned to start quite so soon...

We had a great experience. My goal was to have LO potty trained by 2 (which didn't happen). By 22 months she was doing a lot of pees in her potty, and by 23 months she did all pees in the potty when she was naked (if she wasn't naked and had a pull up, she'd go in her pull up). I felt like I would never get her to go poop in the potty. I tried everything, but every time she had to poop she would beg for a diaper.

At 26 months we didnt really follow a method, but just decided to hit potty training hard. She did her first poop in the potty during this time, and then it was a breeze from there. It took about 2-3 days and she was totally trained. On day 2 or 3 we had to go somewhere and I didn't want to put her in a diaper and Confuse her. So we went out in undies and to my surprise, she used the public toilet! That was our "aha" moment and she's had MAYBE 5 accidents TOTAL since then (this was in early August).

She wore nighttime pullups for 2 months but since then has been night trained, too.

I guess what I learned I that I just had to follow her. I could set 2 as a goal all I wanted, but it wouldn't happen if she wasn't ready. At 26 months it was almost like she said "okay, I'm gonna do this," and it happened. I also needed to take the step to leave the house and give her a little bit of control in the situation. I just trusted her and she surprised me. We have never had an accident in public!

@autumnlove: Ugh. What am I doing wrong? I'm so glad it was relatively easy for you though! I mean I'm glad I'm not cleaning up pee all day, but I don't want her to get a UTI.

@LuLu Mom: Oh gosh. I'm sorry! That's why this is all so stressful. I'm afraid to leave the house anymore. She could just regress or have an accident anytime. Then we're out somewhere with poop all over the place!

@autumnlove: We are kind of doing the revised three-day-method too. We aren't going anywhere, and she's been naked or just in underwear for the past 36 hours. I'm still doing diapers for naps & night, but I think I'm going to get Dan to get some pull ups on his way home from work. Did E have any trouble with holding or actually peeing in the potty?

Sigh, if you would have asked me last week I would have said "it was so much easier than expected." We did the 3 day potty training over Thanksgiving, still putting a pull up on her at nap and nighttime. She was doing great, having very few accidents UNTIL this weekend. She has been awful, having 3-4 accidents, pooping in her pants which she's never done, and saying she's a baby. This is a regression that is solely because we devoted time to baby sister's nursery this weekend and she's jealous,. but it's not going away. after a month and 1/2 of doing so good, it's the worst it's ever been.

We used the 3 day training method and it went well for pee after the 3 days! It took another 3ish months for LO to attempt a poop on the potty....she saved all #2 for nap and night diapers up to that point. We tried encouraging her but she refused and only pooped on the potty when she was ready.

I'd love to hear about your potty training experiences!

Here's where we are so far...

I started potty training yesterday, and it's going... well, it's going. Today was better than yesterday, but hasn't been great. Sadie definitely makes the connection between having to pee/poop and the potty, but is hesitant to actually go once she's on the potty. She will say "OH! Potty!" and run to the bathroom. I'll put her on the toilet, and then she just sits there. She's been holding it most of the day, which I know isn't good for her. The two times she's peed on the potty today were due to just not being able to hold it anymore. She's had two accidents, but she was able to stop the flow once she realized what was happening. Whereas yesterday she just full-on peed all over the joint. She was very upset during her accidents yesterday, which I think is causing the holding today. I'm not sure how to break through the fear/uneasiness about the toilet.

So, tell me all about your experiences. How long did it take until your LO was mostly PT'd? How long did it take to "click"? Did your LO have troubles going on the potty? How did you help them break through? Share your PTing ups and downs!
