This happened to my friend recently. She had baby at 37 weeks and baby was just over 4lbs. He stayed in the NICU for a week until he gained weight and could stabilize his temperature and keep his blood sugar up. He is perfectly healthy.

I had a tiny baby. My water broke at 38w6d and I was induced that day. LO was born 4lbs13oz but perfectly healthy. No NICU. He's always been small but now at 16 months he's up into the 40th percentiles for height and weight. He's always had a normal sized head lol.

He's perfect, healthy, hitting all his milestones, and is super happy and smiley. So size was definitely a nonissue. They tested the placenta and there were no known reasons for his tinyness. I'm going to see an MFM to see if there's anything going with me for a possible next LO, but everything turned out fine.

So think positively!!

I am being induced a week from today (if not before) at 37 weeks because although baby'/ heart rate/fluid levels/placental blood flow all look fine, she's sadly just not growing adequately. I've had an amnio, so pretty much all known genetic abnormalities have been ruled out.

My previous DDs were both small - 5 lb 11 oz and 5 lb 14 oz...but we are looking at under 5 lbs with this baby (they're currently guessing she's around 4 lbs 3 oz, and doubt that she'll gain the average half lb per week typical at this stage before I'm induced).

I have no idea what to expect and am hoping for stories. If you had an IUGR/SGA baby, and are willing to share your experience:

At what gestation was she/he born?
How much did she/he weigh?
Did she/he do NICU time?
How is she/he doing now?

Thanks so much!
