The first has much higher rate of complication cause the body's not ready.</p> <p>I had my labour augmented with DD after my water was broken for 24hrs and I hadn't gone into labour. The second day I was supposed to start Pitocin but they decided to try more cervical ripening instead. I ended up staying overnight although they initially planned to send me home. I had some contractions overnight so they started Pitocin late morning. Started cervidil at 6pm over night. Then misoprostyl once the next day. Then pitocin started at noon. I was in active labor by 3 and began pushing around 8. She was born at 8:53. I had no pain meds and although it was painful (of course) it was much less than I had freaked myself out about!! Got epidural at midnight and had 15 mins of pushing. Was 4cm and 80% at 38.5 wks. </p> <p>My second was induced for IUGR. Was 2cm and 80% at 38.2 wks. Doc just broke my water at 1 and he was born at 10 pm. Had my epidural at 830 and 15 mins of oushing. No need for pitocin. It was about 12 hours from starting the oxytocin to babe in arms. I found the contractions extremely painful since they started out super intense rather than a gradual process (don't get me wrong, I'm sure they would have been extremely painful anyway). The first seemed like it took longer than the second, but I think I was in the hospital for the same amount of time before delivering both! My first induction started in the morning, I had oral cytotec and pitocin, and I delivered just after midnight. My second started in the evening (so I got to sleep through most of it!), I had cervidil and pitocin, and I delivered around 2 pm. Sorry!<br /> I was induced at 40+ 3, because of medical insurance switching from old job to husbands. I arrived at midnight to the hosipal, got checked in and by 2am given 1/2 of pill (cytotec?), then 6am other half of pill. Only dialated to 2cm since being admitted. </p> <p>By 10am started on pitocin. I was only dialated to 2 cm for the whole day. I was worried that my body wasn't doing what it was supposed to do, but just keep going on.</p> <p>Around noon, I got to eat some soup, ice, and jello. Which was totally needed and I asked for because I was starting to feel faint. If you need food or something to drink, Ask For It!!</p> <p>Watched TV, did Internet, basic stuff. People kept texting me to see if the baby was here yet, and it got to the point that it wasn't happening and I was getting annoyed by the questions and well wishes. At a point I stopped looking at the phone or responding.</p> <p>By 5:30pm water broke naturally after going to the restroom. and then the contractions really started up! I got the epi at 6pm. Every hour the nurse would come in and check me and if no change in monitoring I could press the epi button again! Which was sweet!</p> <p>By 8pm the nurse came in and asked me to lay on left side, to get baby moving down the birth canal. At 8:30pm nurse came in again was going to ask me to move to right side, but couldn't find heart beat...put oxygen mask on and it turns out baby had dropped all the way and I was fully dilated at 10 and ready to go!</p> <p>So active labor was 3 hours which I didn't really feel because of the epi! At 9:02pm she was born vaginally and perfectly healthy! I did 6 pushes and she was out! It was the best induction and birth I ever could have imagined!!</p> <p>Think positive, rest and relax and know that your baby will arrive when they are supposed to! I was so scared that it wouldnt end well because of all the stories I read online, so I was very pleased! I was also not dilated, 0% effaced, and baby had not dropped - so pretty much the worst induction candidate :)</p> <p>I had a round of cytotec overnight (since I wasn't dilated or effaced at all) then started a second round in the morning which caused contractions to begin within 3 hours, and never had to have pitocin. She was out by 945. I got cervadil at about 6am, pitocin and an epidural a little later on and had a baby at 5:07. I was getting pretty sick though and allegedly babies who "really need to come out" sometimes come faster. It was as easy and painless as an induction could be. </p> <p>With DS I was induced at 39w because of hypertension and my previous history. I got pitocin at 9am epidural at 12, water broken at 1 and baby at 7pm! My epidural wasn't as good this time but I only pushed for less than 20 minutes. It really was another easy induction. </p> <p>I'm afraid to try for #3. (I was pretty sure I'd go late bc my mom went 12-16 days late for all four children and was induced with the last two!)</p> <p>My induction started around 9:30am with a foley catheter, some very low levels of pitocin (like the highest was a 9 or 10 out of 30, I think?), doctor broke my water around 3pm, got an epidural around 4pm, started pushing at 8:45pm and baby was born at 10:43pm the same day. We never had issues with the baby's heart rate, my BP, etc. Pushing for two hours wasn't fun, but I've read that's fairly typical for a first-time mom. My water started to leak a few hours later, so I was put on pitocin. 9 hours later, I was pushing. Took 2.5 hours, though </p> <p>T: induced for high BP and protein-started on pitocin at 3pm, felt nothing for hours, then they broke my water at 5 because he was having tachycardia patterns (which he was having before the induction) was in labor around 6pm delivered him just after midnight. Three minutes of pushing. Pitocin was started at 10 pm and she was born at 130 pm the next day. Her heart rate stayed steady and healthy and my BP never spiked or anything like that. It took a while but looking back I guess it was smooth! I got started with cervadil around 12-1am. Got another round 5-6am (just wasn't fun getting cervix checked and then having the pill shoved up there...). Finally got to 3cm around 1pm (I started at nothing, was totally shut tight). And at that point I only felt very mild cramps. Got on epidural, then pitocin, and started pushing at 9pm. </p> <p>So everything was fine, it just took a long time and I was so tired by the time I started pushing. I know the measurements can be pretty off, so I wouldn't want to schedule it any earlier than 39 weeks. Both our families have a history of large babies although no need for c/s for size.<br /> I often hear about inductions being much more painful and drawn out than if you went into labor naturally but a few ladies on my due date board said theirs was "great."<br /> I would love to hear from others, so if you had a "smooth" induction, tell me about it. :happy: </p>
