I just got one but I've only use it twice because the baby is too inconsistent with his eating to pump a lot yet.

It is really quiet and I like the night light. I hate an Ameda that was dying by 10 months so I decided to try something different this time. It seems to work fine so far!

I had the Medela Freestyle from DS, and have used the Spectra S9 and Spectra Dew350 with DD. The suction with the Spectra is definitely much more gentle than Medela. However, their products seems "cheap". For instance, the tubing isn't well built nor stays connected to the pump well, it pops off quite easily. And it's a good thing the Spectra is a closed system because milk always gets suctioned into the membrane part on the S9 or the tubing with the Dew350. It's rather annoying and I foresee mold building soon! I don't have this problem with my Medela Freestyle.

I have the Spectra and the Medela PISA. I prefer the Spectra because I find that it is quieter and gentler. I haven't been using the Medela regularly so I don't know if I am producing more or less milk via the Spectra. I googled a hack to use my Medela parts with my Spectra.

I love mine. It's so much quieter and more effective than my medela. And I can pump right into Avent bottles.

@Mrsbells: I had an Ameda that I liked until it completely stopped working around 10 months. It just couldn't handle twice-daily (sometimes three times a day) pumping for months on end. I ended up renting a hospital grade Ameda pump to get me through the tenth month and then went back to my insurance one because I was trying to wean and it wasn't a big deal if I got less milk from my pumping sessions.

The customer service person I dealt with was not great either and their hours are normal business hours, so I couldn't sit at my desk and try to troubleshoot over the phone with someone while also trying to work.

@Mrsbells: Hard for me to compare since I'm not using my PISA for regular pumping this time around. I'd think so though. I haven't had any trouble getting enough for daycare bottles.

@SLR: Thanks do you get as much milk with the spectra
@mdf106: Thanks I also considered the Ameda PY but the reviews seem so negative.

I keep my Spectra at work and my PISA at home. My feelings on the Spectra are mixed. It's a much gentler suction for me, so more comfortable but just different since I don't 'feel' it working. I love that it's quiet and can run on battery. The parts are annoying to me though. On the plus side, it's a closed system...but it's also six more pieces that I wash each day. It also took some time figuring out what adapter parts work best for me to use my Medela flanges and bottles.

ETA: I'm also not a fan of the tubing. It's sticky and seems to get grimy on the outside. I did buy some aftermarket tubing that I still have yet to try.

So basically...I'm a fan of the pump itself but dislike the standard parts that come with it.

I liked it better than my Ameda Purely Yours, although I had no problems with the Ameda. The Spectra is very large, and I keep it at work (I rarely pump at home, but I have the Ameda there if necessary). The Spectra is very quiet, and I have an easier time getting a letdown. Both the Ameda and Spectra are closed systems.

If you read my other posts, I am 31 weeks and trying to choose between the 4 pumps provided by my insurance (Medela PISA, Ameda PY, Lansinoh, Spectra)
4 years ago when I had LO I used the Lansinoh Affinity which is a closed system and I loved it. I heard great things about the Spectra but just wanted to know if anyone on the board has used it personally. I'm also curious why its much cheaper if its such a great pump, although to be honest the Lansinoh was great and was cheap too
