Almost 3 years old and doesn't take a nap unless he has had a long activity filled day (usually on weekends). He is a grumpy napper and takes a long time to get out of his funk. We have quiet time in lieu of nap time, which he needs to get through the day. He sleeps from 7:15 pm - 7:00 am.

23 months. Went on 1 nap at 12 months. Currently, she rarely naps. Most days, she's up 8-7 just fine. Days she wakes up earlier, she sometimes naps from about 12:30-2:30, not more than 2 hours and usually less.

Sixteen months old and Miss A usually naps in her cot from about 1130-1300ish. Most days I nurse to sleep but she will go to sleep on her own after ten or fifteen minutes of rolling around.

@MamaChin: Ten or so hours is a normal night of sleep for my LO too and her total sleep is 12-13 hours in 24 hours.

@Penny Lane: We're still nursing to sleep over here!

24 months
He naps at 1 or 1:30pm, and sleeps until 3:30-4pm. It's usually a solid 2 hours, sometimes 2.5. He sleeps in his crib at home and generally goes down pretty easily. Thankfully, I've always had a pretty good sleeper on my hands.

@skibobrown: I'm always glad to hear I'm not the only one who rocked their kid to sleep for so long! it definitely felt like I was! ;)

also like @sandy: said, on the occasion he hasn't fallen asleep, I would leave him in his room until 2 hours had passed. I would go in and soothe and lay him back down if he cried, but he's not coming out of there until 2 hours is up!

LO is 16 months and still on 2 naps, but his night time sleep is on the short side - around 10 hours. He wakes around 7 and will nap around 10 and 4. He does roll around for quite a bit until he falls asleep, sometimes 10 mins, sometimes up to an hour but he hardly cries. First nap is usually 2 sleep cycles, I can set a clock by him, an hour and 20 mins to the minute. Second nap may be one or two cycles, depending on the day's activities.

@skibobrown: if she's not sleeping after 30 minutes I do usually go in and take her to the potty (she's potty trained but wears pull ups at bedtime and naptime). Then I tell her it's time for "nigh nigh" and tell her to lay down and be quiet. Sometimes that gets her to lay down long enough to fall asleep but sometimes she is quiet for 20-30 minutes and starts talking/singing/rolling around and then she's walking all around her bed. I just leave her until the 2 hour mark and then get her. Even if she doesn't sleep I think that time alone helps her get to bedtime without being cranky...and we do move bedtime up an hour and she passes out on those days l

My LO has been on one nap since she was 13-months old, and it has never been more than 1 hour, 15 minutes long.

She is now 22 months and takes a one-hour nap from 1-2. That's it! Obviously i wish she slept longer, but apparently it is all her body needs.

Bedtime is at 8-9, and she sleeps until 8 am.

@skibobrown: funny you ask. I'm sitting in my car right now while DD is napping. She's been fighting her naps like crazy lately but when we go for a drive she knocks out in 5 minutes so I know she's tired! She's 14 months and I still don't have this nap thing down. :(

@Penny Lane: I rocked my daughter until around 18 months too! She was always so hard to get down for naps, then we hit a magical time between 18 months and now when she would go down by herself and take a solid afternoon nap. That magical time seems to be coming to an end...

@sandy: That pretty much sounds like where we're heading. We have the same thing where she sleeps for a really long time *if* she falls asleep. I'm curious if you go back in and re-tuck or try to soothe your daughter when she isn't going down. I'm never sure if I should intervene or not when she's not crying but also trying not to sleep. I'd like to try pushing back naptime until closer to 2 PM, but I don't want to interfere w' DD's daycare schedule where they nap much earlier.

I hate how you finally get the sleep thing all figured out, and then it goes and changes on you again...

21 months. Wakes up around 7am naps around 11am-1pm. I've noticed that if I try to push it back, it takes longer to get him down and he doesn't sleep as long either.

16 months and usually on 1 nap...from 1030/11 to anywhere between 12 and 1. He goes down really easily, I just wish he regularly slept at least 2 hours, because I don't think less than that is enough.

R is 20 months and naps from 12:35/12:55 to 2:40/3. She wakes anywhere between 7 and 8. Nap used to be 1/1:15 but she wasn't sleeping. When I put her down now she is asleep in under 10 minutes. Keep trying! It could just be a phase.

My 18 month old is still taking 2 naps. She doesn't seem ready to drop one yet. Usually 10-12 and 3-4ish. Sometimes she can push her first one til 11 but she's still miserable in the afternoon because she's tired again do she'll have a late nap.

DS is 21 months and naps from 11am to 1 or 2pm. We start the routine at 10:30 (brush teeth, refill straw cup of water, read books) and I'm out of the room by 10:45. He'll read a board book or play with Scout in his crib but 9 times out lf 10 he's asleep by 11. I've tried pushing his nap back but he gets so cranky around 4-4.5 hours after he wakes. He's up for the day between 6 and 7am.

Around 20 months my LO's nap got later and later. Her awake time from about 5 hours to 6 hours and now at 2 years 3 months her awake time is about 7 hours.

So she used to wake up around 7:00 and go to bed around 1:00 and now she wakes up around 7:30 and naptime is 2:30. I would say she naps 3 days and doesn't nap 1 day and repeat. But when she does nap she sleeps for 3 hours so I know she still needs that nap. The days she doesn't nap I leave her for 2 hours for "quiet time" and she stays in her bed and sings/talks and plays with her loveys (3 stuffed animals) and then bedtime is moved up an hour earlier (instead of 8:00 her bedtime is 7:00)

18 month old, naps at home in his cot. he goes in his cot any time from 12:30-2, after a bottle of milk. he can take up to an hour of rolling around and chatting before he falls asleep, but is usually less than 20 min. he's still only learning to go to sleep himself though (I rocked him to sleep until last month) so I'm still going in to calm him if he starts screaming

When do they typically nap? Where? Do they fall asleep easily, or do they fight their naps?

My daughter naps at daycare from 12:30 until 2:30 most days, although they typically have some trouble getting her down. At home things have gotten pretty bad recently, which is why I'm asking the question. I try to keep her on the same schedule as daycare, but she fights me on that. She'll either jump around in her crib for up to an hour or scream her head off before giving in to sleep in her crib. I'm wondering if we need to push back her nap time or give into the fact that she might be starting to drop her final nap. If we go out in the car around nap time, she'll fall asleep, but she wakes up as soon as the car stops.
