@gingerbebe: This exactly. But you said it in a much shorter and simpler way than I would have. 👍🏼

Thanks everyone for your responses. I guess we are going to be moving towards one nap.

@iluvboba637: Can you try dropping the second nap and seeing wha happens? Maybe she will self-adjust and start pushing her morning nap later until voila - its one nap.

To answer your question, DS (24 months NEXT WEEK GULP!) goes to bed around 7:30 pm and wakes around 6:00 am. There was a period he was waking at 5:00 but we just waited it out and it stopped. He takes one nap because school forces him to lol It's from 12:30-2:30.

Good luck!

DS dropped a nap at 12 months when he switched rooms at daycare and went down to one nap at home around 14 months. We basically dropped the morning nap and pushed his afternoon nap up a little earlier. He goes to bed between 8-8:30 and sleeps til 7:30ish. His nap is from 1-3 ish. He adapted well just dropping one nap cold turkey, but I know toddlers aren't always that easy.

Agree with the others... DS switched to one nap around 15 months. The early rising is definitely due to too much/late day sleep. It was a super hard and very long transition but nights are so much easier now.
We started with one nap around 11am and now at almost 2.5 he goes down at 1 most days b

Pretty much exactly like @gingerbebe said. Our daycare provider had him start dropping at 12 months. If he was super cranky, he had a catnap of less than 1 hr (even 20 mins was enough). If not, especially if they were outside or out and about and distracted, she would get him to push without it and put him down in the aft earlier. This may have been at 11:30 or so. It worked super well.

My 20 month old has been on one nap since she turned one. The toddler room at daycare only does one nap so it was just cold turkey. This is her sleep schedule (which has been steady since she was 13-14 months old):

Night: 6:30 PM - 6:30 AM
Nap: Starts at 12:00-12:30 but length is unpredictable. Typically around an hour but can range anywhere from 20 mins - 2 hrs.

My 20 month old has been on one nap for a few months - I was going to type out a whole thing but it amounted to what @gingerbebe: said, so I’m just going to second that plan.

Push the AM nap by 30 minutes and cap it at 1 hour. Then have her go down for her PM nap earlier (say 1230 or 1) and let her sleep as long as she likes. Bump bedtime up to 6-630pm.

Gradually push morning nap another 30 minutes and shorten it - 45 mins, 30 mins, etc.

Then drop the morning nap and move the nap early to like 1130am. Let her sleep as long as she likes. It will probably take a month before they extend that nap out to 2-3 hours. So early bedtimes will be needed for a bit.

Once the nap extends to 2-3 hours, then work on pushing the nap back to 12 or 1230.

We transitioned to one nap around 15 months. We just delayed the morning nap until about 11. We tried to do really fun things in the morning to keep him up. I found staying home made for much crankier days. But you have to be careful they don’t fall asleep in the car. We gave a big snack around 10:30 and then lunch when he woke up. We also moved bedtime forward for a little while. We gradually pushed the nap to after lunch. He just turned two and sleeps from 730-630 and naps from 12:30-3:30.

DD has been on 1 nap since 10 months- early waking might be due to too much daytime sleep.

My 2 year old has been on one nap for over a year and initially it was at 11am and has slowly moved to 1230 over the months.
He goes to bed at 730pm and gets up at 7am.

How we got here was just by delaying the morning nap further and further each day over a couple of weeks. Try to get the first nap to start at 11 and then you can just let LO have a short afternoon nap if required, or bring bedtime forward. Honestly I found a few cranky days during the transition were worth the outcome!

Short story.
The 18 month sleep regression is still killing us. She's fighting bedtime every single night with major tears and tantrums. She's still on 2 naps but I can't figure out how to drop it to 1 nap because she wakes up so early.

Please share your toddler's sleep schedule and bonus - how you transitioned to 1 nap.
---
Long story
Dd is 19 months and we have been fighting the 18 month sleep regression for the last few weeks in addition to back to back colds, fever viruses, and an ear infection. For the most part she almost healthy now with a slight runny nose. However sleep is still a huge headache.

Bedtime has always been ~7:00 and she wakes anywhere between 5:00-6:00. She is truly an early riser 6:45 has been her latest wake up time ever and that's only happened a few times no matter how late we put her to bed.

She normally starts her morning nap around 8:30 or 9 and sleeps anywhere until 10 or sometimes almost 11. Her afternoon nap starts around 1:30 to 2:30 and sleeps until 3 or 4. I know 4 is late and I always wake her by 4 but usually I let her wake by herself rather than dealing w a major meltdown when i go to wake her up.

I'm thinking I need to drop her to 1 nap but my issue is how. I feel like skipping then morning nap will be difficult for her because she wakes up sooo early and the awake time will be too long between morning wake up and the start of her nap.
