@rattles: So cool!! I absolutely love it. I almost didn't buy it out of spite (the antique store we rented it from jacked up the price when I inquired about buying them by $100). In the end I'm so glad I bought it!

We ended up with a "destination" wedding just outside of Austin, Texas. (DH and I were living in Georgia and Texas is where I grew up, albeit, no where near Austin. I figured if people were going to fly in to come to our wedding, it might as well be somewhere they've always wanted to go! And Austin is usually one of those "I've always wanted to go" places.)

It was less than a 100 people, married outside next to an enormous, old oak tree. My DH's fraternity brother (who is a minister) officiated the ceremony. My biggest splurge was the 15 piece jazz band. Both singers were absolutely amazing and it took it from a party to a Party. (They were less expensive than the photographer!) Totally a bonus thanks to the intense Austin music scene.

I refused to choose colors, bought a mess of ranunculus and roses on-line, bought so much booze that our rental car was a rolling molotov cocktail, told my bridesmaids and bridesguy to "figure something out", bought my wedding dress off the internet and somehow the entire thing still managed to look "put together". I'm still amazed it turned out as storybook perfect as it did. Easily the best day of my life next to the day DH told me he loved me. :)

Did anyone else have to cut themselves off from the internet as the day got close? The insane "crafty, project" weddings did nothing for my self-esteem!

We had a winter wedding and it was absolutely perfect. We got married in a tiny classic looking Episcopal church by one of DH's best friends, our pastor. DH surprised me by recording all our music we used - it was hard for me to hold it together walking down the aisle to his singing/guitar playing!

Our theme was just kind of a winter cocktail party - black cocktail dresses for the bridesmaids, gray tuxes for the guys. Our flowers were a mix of purples and dusty miller, and our other colors were mostly black and silver. Tons of sparkle! The centerpieces at our reception were manzanita crystal trees, so they looked like icy branches.

Our reception was a blast. We had thousands of twinkle lights swagged from the ceiling, a DJ that kept everybody dancing, great cocktail party-type food, a make your own s'mores bar, and tons of laughing. It was everything I could've ever wanted!

What a fun thread. I was so young and skinny! I would have a totally different wedding now, but I loved it and it was one of the best days of our lives.

We got married in my parents community.
We were married in a non-denominational church that has a maximum capacity of 80 people. We had 79 including the photographers.

The reception was in the ballroom and bar of one of the club houses. It was the perfect size for our crowd.
Our colors were blue and orange.
I had my best friend as my MOH and my husband's best friend was his BM.
I bought the ties at Macy's, My MOH's dress came from the shop where I bought my dress.
The reception was 4 hours long, we had a sit down dinner with the option of crab cakes, filet mignon or chicken (one person chose chicken). :)
We had a DJ who I wouldn't use again.
It was the best wedding I could have asked for.

This is how I felt all day long (other than the one moment where I cursed out the florist but that is a story for another day...):

@kml636: It was very large, however I can say it's nowhere near the level of "fancy" as what people on teh coasts are probably used too! haha things are done a little differently here I have gathered from wedding blogs :)

The big thing for us was we have huge families (my mom has 5 siblings & DH's mom has 8 siblings) so our families made up 250+ of the guest list!

We were married in October, colours were orange and charocal gray with some white and silver mixed in. We got married at a ski lodge in the Gatineau hills and went for pictures at Mackenzie King Estate. We both had 4 people - I had a bridesmaid & DH had two groomswomen. We had about 65 people, mostly oot. We didn't have an open bar & nobody died (we did provide wine with dinner, of course). I wore a VERY short veil which fell off 3 seconds after the ceremony & my MoH wore it during dinner, my bridesman & my mom wore it the rest of the might.

We had a hand fasting ceremony incorporated, my mom walked me down the aisle, we had a sparkler send off & black lanterns as centrepieces. I DiYed an orange tissue paper flower napkin-ring for each place setting as well as our invitations and the Chinese take out containers for our candy bar (which doubled as favours).

we served a four course sit down dinner of butternut squash soup, salad, prime rib & creme brûlée. We served a late-night snack of poutine. Our cake was red velvet and chocolate. My brother & uncles played me down the aisle - all Irish songs like "when Irish eyes are smiling" and "Irish washerwoman". Then my brother and his girlfriend (who are actual professional DJs) provided the music for the dancing (which we did a LOT of).

All in all we spent just under 15k and if you know ottawa at all, that is AMAZING.

Awww, I want to play too!

We had two ceremonies, one was the civil ceremony where my father (a Justice of the Peace) married us at our kitchen table. We had a Carvel ice cream cake and I was wearing my pajamas.

Our second ceremony was the wedding, we reaffirmed our vows with a Lutheran pastor at a French restaurant with 135 guests. I wore an ivory lace ML sheath dress with a taupe ribbon belt and my husband wore a taupe linen suit. I carried a bouquet of deep red lilies and black magic roses, we had no attendants but a sibling each did a reading in English and German.

Our invitations were done by Rebecca at The White Aisle (bless her) and they were ivory with a brown letterpressed lace design and text. I handdrew maps for both the invites and the programs. Our favors were simple, we did chocolate Swiss Army knives as a nod to my husband's birthplace and our future temporary home.

Most people were surprised when the Pastor announced that he was welcoming them to the marriage of the already married, we kept it quiet that we were already married and this was really a vow renewal. People love that my dad married us!

We had two wedding ceremonies and receptions, on consecutive nights (Friday and Saturday nights). It was in Dallas, and Dh and I both had to fly in for our own weddings, since we'd just moved to NYC area 2 months before. I only got 2 days off work, since it was a brand new job. lol. Everyone kept asking if I was stressed (no wedding planner, we did everything ourselves), but I really wasn't.

I made the programs for both nights, the escort cards, the gold manzanita branch centerpieces, my inlaws made the favors for the first night, and my mom made the favors for the second night. We decorated the room ourselves---both nights! Our friends and family were a gigantic help.

We had about 120 people for each night, and on the first night we served indian and sri lankan food. On the second night, we had tex-mex--so everyone got to experience both of our culture's food. ;-) We had guests from Australia, UK, Switzerland, Canada, and all over the US---so many hadn't experienced either type of food before.

Since it's not a gold thread, I'll just post some of the details from each night. All the red/gold decor is our hindu wedding and all the white decor is our american wedding. Honestly...I loved our weddings.

Everyone's weddings sound so lovely.

We were married in July on one of the military bases in Southern California that has a beautiful, waterfront event center. We had 135 guests including a lot of husband's family who flew out from Boston which was great. It was a big, loud Italian wedding. Lots of flowers, great food, spectacular weather and views. Because it was 4th of July weekend, there were fireworks-always exciting (and free). Our colors were dark cobalt blue and pale pink. Nothing went wrong and everybody had a good time.

We flew to Vegas and took our immediate family with us for a very small wedding in a casino chapel. We followed it up with photos on the strip. We then had a family dinner at a Brazilian steakhouse. We ended the evening with cake in our suite.

Small and fairly private. It was perfect for us.

We got married in a small pavilion by a lake at sunset on 10/10/10. There's a park surrounding it and it's where DH used to play as a kid. It was a private affair, just how we wanted it.

I love hearing about weddings and looking at all the pics! Funny...earlier today I was wondering to myself if my postpartum belly pudge could ever fit back in to my wedding dress!!

We had an outdoor wedding in a Japanese garden. We had three bridesmaid / three groomsmen and about 100 guests. Not too big, not too small. We also did a first look and I'm so glad we did; I was a little hesitant about that at first. Despite rain early in the day, the weather ended up being absolutely perfect and the venue was so pretty. We had a string quartet, the most beautiful flowers, and all in all a pretty perfect day. Except for the cake, that was a MAJOR letdown!

We had a "formal-ish" wedding in an amazing chapel with a white steeple and HUGE pipe organ inside. It was very bright and airy inside.
We did a peacock theme so we had jewel tone colors: eggplant, jade, dark teal, and navy. I had 7 bridesmaids and he had 5 groomsmen and 2 ring bearers.
Our reception was in a history museum. we rented the entire museum (three floors) so the guests had access to all of the exhibits. We served bbq food (they cooked it outside and servers brought it inside). we served only beer and wine. we had a candy/dessert buffet and had fresh cotton candy spun on site!
We had 240 guests.
My flowers were black calla lillies, purple lisianthis, and some other purple things as well as green hypericum berries. the bridesmaids had lime green flowers (which looked super awesome with their dark dresses).
my bridsmaids had mismatched cocktail dresses and wore patterned hoisery and black heels. they each wore peacock feathers in their hair. I wore swiss-dot tights under my dress to match them. :)
let me dig up some pics....although I am sure most of you have seen them before!

@yoursilverlining: Don't mean to threadjack, but which island off the coast of Maine? I go to Monhegan Island every year with DH and my in-laws and it's my favorite place on earth hands down. :)

I love weddings and reading everyone's stories!

We got married on my parent's front porch. It poured all morning, but the sun came out at the exact right time. As guest came up, there were kids at a lemonade stand handing out drinks. Our ceremony was perfectly us - simple, meaningful, and surrounded by those who love us most.

After the ceremony and cocktail hour (beertinis!) my DH and I led the 120ish guests down this path lit with candles to the reception tent. It was right on the water and had a beautiful view of town. The temperature was perfect and the flies that had been bothering us all week as we were setting up were nowhere to be seen (nothing short of a miralce!!)

Our colors were black and yellow (lots of sunflowers!), we had a ice cream sundae bar for dessert and sliders at midnight. We partied until 3am and then DH and I walked back up the path, rocked on my parent's front porch till about 4am with my dad, until we walked down the road to the cottage we rented for the night.

My favorite part was the church pews we rented for the front lawn of my parents' house for the ceremony. DH and I bought one afterwards and it sits in our front entry way. It always makes me smile!

We got married at the end of summer on a rocky island off the coast of Maine. Everyone came over via ferry together and walked a few steps up to our venue!

We each had 1 friend on our side; Maid of Honor and the Best Woman. Our friend married us and our reading was the MA Supreme Court decision on same-sex marriage. There were about 70 guests; I walked down the aisle to the theme from The Princess Bride on acoustic guitar and we walked back up the aisle together to the Beach Boys God Only Knows!

Our colors were Tiffany blue, ivory, chocolate and pale pink. Flowers were fresh hydrangeas and roses and the theme (according to my husband) was "The Kennedys on the coast". (haha, whatever that means!!!)

After the ceremony, there was a cocktail hour with jazz and lotsssss of hors d'oeuvres followed by a 4 course formal dinner, full bar, cupcakes and lots of dancing to old school jams (awesome mix of old-school rap, punk and classics).

The morning before we hosted a rehearsal dinner open to all guests at a rental house on the island and had a classic Maine lobster-bake.

The next morning we hosted a brunch at a park overlooking the ocean before everyone flew home.

It was AMAZING and even though it was expensive, I don't regret it at all!!

It was the most perfect spring day. Our colors were blue and green. We were married on a small plantation in Georgia. Our ceremony was outdoors in the evening under a gazebo. Our reception was inside the house. We had a buffet and the most delicious item on it was the shrimp and grits. A television crew filmed b-roll for a commercial about the venue during ceremony and reception. The commercial still airs!

Our wedding was held *miraculously* on the hottest day in April in Oregon (aka the one day it didn't rain) inside a gorgeous southern-style country club. We had about 80 guests and 7 members in our bridal party. Our colors were jewel tones (dark pinks and purples) and gold. The ceremony was officiated by my mother's pastor, but had Catholic hints since we're both Catholic but DH has been married before.

We dined on traditional southern fare as a tribute to my husband who is from Tennessee. It was the first time many guests had ever eaten crawfish! My mother made all of the desserts for our dessert bar other than a small cake. Guests loved our homemade photobooth at cocktail hour and DH and I got our own special moment to drink down a beer and eat hdo's right after we said I Do. It was the best night ever and we spent the night in a fancy downtown hotel before heading to Cancun for the honeymoon.

We found out we were expecting right in the middle of planning our big, summertime wedding. Once all the cards were on the table, we decided to plan an intimate, winter celebration in only about 6 weeks time. In the end, we just wanted to get married, and I had secretly wanted to elope, the entire time we had been planning.

We had our ceremony at an old, one-room schoolhouse in the redwoods. We didn't really have a color scheme, but ended up with mostly ivory, cocoa brown, mint green, and some splashes of gold and silver. We got married in the evening, in front of a fireplace, with lots of candles, abound. Had a sort of "cocktail hour", only with a hot cocoa and tart bar. We shared our first dance, and then I had a spin with my dad. Afterwards, we all headed into town and had a four course reception dinner at our favorite French bistro. We had about 35 guests, and it couldn't have been more perfect.

Oooh I love reading these!

My wedding hasn't happened yet, so I'll describe what we've planned so far. We're getting married in mid-September at an old Tudor mansion, turned inn, in Manchester, VT. The ceremony will be outside facing the Green Mountains (with my FBIL officiating), cocktail hour on the veranda, and a stations dinner in the dining room. We're having so many different stations, I'm excited. We're serving pies instead of cake - 6 different flavors of pie. The DJ and dancing will be back out on the veranda after dinner.

Our colors are navy blue and crimson, with pops of deep orange and yellow. We will each have 3 attendants. There's no real "theme" but decor will be DIY and sort of rustic. We're inviting 82 people, but only expecting 65 or 70 to actually show up. Everyone will be staying at the inn the night of the wedding and we'll have a brunch the next day.

I can't wait!
