We had attempted a little earlier, but after a handful of accidents I just decided to put it on hold. I knew she was ready because one day she said in the car "Mommy, I have to go potty" and I said "You have a diaper on. FWIW, he wasn't really showing any interest in training at all, but as parents, we decided it was time. I didn't read any books, but we did a variation of the weekend naked method and had m&amp;m's as a reward, 2 for pee 4 for poo. We had both the Bjorn toilet potty seat and Bjorn potty. Starting in the morning, we explained that it was time to start using the potty and encouraged him to sit on either one. I also let him drink this flavored water throughout the day that I normally wouldn't buy, but that he loved and drank a lot of. After that, we had him go to the potty every 15 minutes. He literally figured out pee right away. By the middle of the day he was running to the potty to pee by himself. </p> <p>Poop was a bit different. I think he understood what he was supposed to do, but didn't want to do it. In the beginning, we were focused on daytime training and didn't mind the idea of diapers for naps and night. So every time I would put a diaper on him for naps or night, he would poo. This lasted about 2 weeks, and then he finally got it. I think the most important part was insisting that he was a big boy and couldn't wear diapers during the day anymore. Sometimes he would scream and cry and demand a diaper, but I was firm and didn't let him. </p> <p>He has had surprisingly few accidents ever since. At this point, he can nap without a diaper. We still use diapers at night but are slowly weaning him off of them. I have a small potty seat (goes on the regular toilet seat) and a little kid potty. </p> <p>Please tell me how you potty trained - the more details the better! How old was your LO, what did you do step by step, what would you do differently/same the next time. Did you read any potty books? </p> <p>Thanks! </p>
