She usually does 3 30 min naps during the day at daycare, at home they will last from 30-2 hrs!

For the first week he was only napping for 30 minutes 4 times. Now he is back to his original nap patterns which is 2 hour nap in the morning and 2 1 hour naps in the afternoon.

Daycare assured us that many babies sleep better at daycare, and not to worry about it because they all adjust. LO takes 3 naps a day at daycare, and they are no more than 45 minutes each…but most are 20-30 minutes or less. She isn’t fussy though, and sleeps through the night; so maybe she just doesn’t need as much sleep during the day?

LO has gotten much better about napping wherever since starting daycare; while still at home she would really only nap if being held.

My son is 6 1/2 months and has been in day care since he was around 10 weeks. I was worried about how he would adjust but he actually sleeps pretty well there. I think sometimes it's easier for him to check out there vs. when he's at home playing with mom and dad. But we've also been dealing with the 30 min nap stage again and he does that at home and at day care. I'm hoping this phase ends soon- it's impossible to get anything done at home on the weekends!

DD was also a 30 minute napper at daycare but I know the other babies slept longer so I don't feel like it was my daycare's fault.

DS naps better at daycare than he does at home. He will take a 45-60 min nap in the morning and a two hour nap in the afternoon. I'm lucky if I can get him to nap 30 min at home! They told me he actually sleeps better out in the playroom than in the sleep room. So he either naps in the crib that is pulled out, the swing, or on this round boppy pillow thing. So you could get lucky and it could get better.

She naps...unpredictably at daycare. She's 15 weeks, and usually takes 3-4 naps that are anywhere from 20-90 minutes (but the 90 minute ones are the exception!). They don't put her on any schedule, they try and put her down when she's tired, and she sometimes naps in the swing or bouncy seat. On one hand, she's a tiny baby still, so I don't want her forced on a schedule, but on the other, when I pick her up at 5:30 and her last nap was for 20 minutes at 3:30...well those evenings are awful. But not sure what else to do, she's a great sleeper at night, and even on maternity leave her naps in the afternoon were a crapshoot (but a long morning nap (1-2 hours) was always a given, and I hate she doesn't get it anymore).

@winniebee: and people tell me their lo was sleeping through the night at 4 months. :/ They're all on their own schedules, you know? I wouldn't even worry about the naps. Maybe daycare will be able to help get him on a longer nap cycle but maybe he's just a short napper (like M) for now?

my friends' kids napped great at daycare.... better than they napped at home.

charlie was older when he started (21 months), but he napped great from day 1.

@mediagirl: I just thought he would have outgrown it by now! People talk about babies dropping their 3rd nap at 6 months....but he still takes like 4 a day since they are so short and he's 5 months!

Same thing as at home, unfortunately. She sleeps for 30 minute snippets at daycare. At home I can try and get her back down for another 10 but, that doesn't happen often and I know daycare doesn't do that. I hope someday our babes start taking longer naps, @winniebee. :)

At that age, LO was still a fairly good napper at daycare. It was once she became mobile that naps became a huge issue. I can tell you that it does get better. Part of getting better was changing daycares (for us). At our current daycare our LO (14 months) is considered a "old infant" and the class is on a schedule. All the kiddos nap at the same time which has led to only one nap, but it's 1.5-2 hours long consistently. This is also the case at home now as well.

@kiddosc: I'm expecting the same thing too. He only naps for 30 mins for me at home, why would he nap BETTER at daycare. Eh.

Probably not what you're hoping for, but E naps horribly at daycare. He sleeps for 20-35 minutes about three times a day. He's not cranky or anything, he's just so entertained by everything going on around him that he won't sleep. They try to lay him in the crib, rock him, put him in the swing, he just doesn't sleep. He takes long 1.5-2.5 hr naps on the weekends though. Maybe he's catching up on all the sleep lost during the week.

My son is not a good napper (since 4 months....he's now 5 months). He starts daycare in a few weeks and I can't help but think if he doesn't nap more than 30 minutes in his dark room in his crib in virtual silence, how the heck is he going to nap at daycare?!

How did your LO do at daycare with naps??
