It worked great for us! I always say that letting him CIO was the best decision ever. I did it when my son was 9 month old. He was waking up every 2 hours and after that he was sleeping 11 hours. Happy mom happy baby!!

@Katrocap: Just checking in to see if you tried CIO and if it worked? DD is 19 month and I'm starting to think sleep training a toddler is impossible and looking for some hope! :)

Worked well for us, in one night at around 6.5 months. I hadn't fully weaned at that point either. But it didn't work for my nephew at all. He would cry for hours and hours, and it never improved and he would get so upset he would throw up.

It worked for us at 11 months, but we had a big regression at around 2 years of age that CIO hasn't been able to resolve, since he refused to sleep in a crib any longer and can get out of his bed.

Worked for us, though it took a couple weeks. I can now put him in the crib awake at bed time and in 5 minutes or less he's asleep with no crying and stays down for 11+ hours. Before that he was waking every 2-3 hours.

It worked for us but we had also fully weaned. It took 2 nights of over 90 minutes of screaming crying and falling asleep standing up, but she has been an awesome sleeper since then and she goes down totally awake which has been amazing. Instead of taking 45min-an hour of walking and rocking to get her asleep, we just put her in and close the door.

It worked for us only after I fully weaned. We had tried 3-4 times before that and it would work for a few nights and then they'd slowly regress. Once I stopped BFing, we went hardcore, extinction CIO and while it sucked (DS cried for 2.5 hours the first night), it was very quick and effective. Two nights later and both babies have STTN ever since.

It seems like it does for some babies and not for others. I think we will eventually try dr jay Gordon's strategies as well.

Worked for us in 3 nights at 12.5 months. We did interval checks. Had to do another round of light training a couple of months later after sickness and travel that went well and she's been good since!

@meredithnyc: Great to hear that it worked for you!

@rrachael: I think this age will be good for DS. He knows to turn on his GloWorm when he wakes up; I just need to let him self-soothe. And, like you said, he knows where he is, which helps. Thanks for your response, and three cheers for your LO! Oh, and I'm going to check out this Jay Gordon guy

For us, I really feel like 17/18 months was the best time to let our lo cry at night. She finally seemed ready to self sooth, she knew where she was, she could communicate when something really was wrong (dirty diaper, teeth hurting). It was like a switch went off and where as she used to get more and more hysterical until I caved ... She now wakes once, fusses for about a minute to three minutes then lays back down and goes back to sleep. Sometimes she has off nights but we are going on two months of overall success. I say try it ... You know your little one best and if they're not ready you'll know it :)

P.s. I didn't follow dr. Jay Gordon's plan exactly ... But it has a lot of good tips for night weaning :)

It did for us, though I started when my LO was younger (3.5 months). At 18 months it may be a bit more challenging, but it should probably work.

DS is 18 months and I can't take these MOTN wake-ups anymore. He wakes up about 1-3 times a night and, yes, I go in and nurse him to sleep because it's been working, kind of. But it's time to pull off the band-aid and we're going to try CIO tonight. Does it really work?
