I have your personality with this kind of stuff so I totally think you're right, lol. The FB invite was rude, a phone call to you would have been the right thing to do.

I wonder what your diva self would think about some of my current family happenings, haha!

I agree with @Oceanis723: It seems like they were inviting you as a courtesy and didn't expect you to go. I'd be pissed, too.

@Oceanis723: thank you! This is what I told my husband. It is obvious they didn't really want us there.

Oh and my husband asked his step mom why she never emailed me the date in advance and her excuse was that they wanted to give 3 weeks notice but fell short.... Umm 3 weeks notice still isn't enough in my opinion. Oh well.

If I got a two week notice for something out of state I would assume the invite was not actually meant for me to attend but just to invite so I couldn't complain about not getting invited.

@softcream: no we didn't end up going. It was too short of notice and DH needs a long time in advance to ask for work off or switch days or work double shifts to take time off so it wouldn't work. And they knew that and that's why I asked for the date in advance.

Yes we are the only ones who had to fly in, well I guess his mom and her fiancé who live in Arizona would have had to but they were not planning on going because of their wedding and needing to save up.

This is getting confusing, it's his step mom I was emailing, his mom lives in Arizona and I don't really talk to her. But this family does everything together, all step people and everything,

that's pretty rude. are you the only ones that would have had to fly in? wait, did you end up going?

i like me some cotton candy, but it doesn't sound like it'd be very fun to fly out of state on such short notice to have cotton candy with a bunch of rude relatives.

@Adira: I should have added towards the end of August I emailed my mother in law and got no reply back. It was something like, "hey just wondering if this was still happening, let us know either way!" and got nothing back.

Ugh, that sucks!!! Especially since you made a point in advance of stating that you wanted to be there and that you'd like to know when it is as soon as they knew anything! What a bummer you had to miss it!!!

I'm curious if you had any follow-up with your MIL though. She originally told you the BBQ was going to be in August, and it obviously wasn't. When August rolled around, did you try to get more information from her about when exactly it would be held?

Your in-laws are definitely more in the wrong here, but I guess now you know that you need to be more proactive about stuff like this since they aren't particularly on the ball with keeping family informed!

@Foodnerd81: some of his family members have not talked to him since we got married in June, I guess Facebook is easier or something? I don't know. Ya I need to learn how to not be offended. I'm not really offended as much as I'm just mad, like why call it a family BBQ when you don't even make a worthy effort to include us.

Oh that is annoying! And just so hearrtless!

Even if they didn't know about it before 2 weeks, why wouldn't they call their own son to tell him about it, instead of a facebook invite. Since it's your inlaws, I think you should try not to be too offended personally, but I'd be offended FOR your husband.

My FIL pulls stuff like that-- like he'll be travelling to an hour away from us, flying into our airport, and won't even mention it to DH. I don't care if he wants to see me or not, i have my own dad, but be nice to your own son!

@Mrs.M57: i know right? And my husband wasn't the one asking about it, I was. And they can't tell me they didn't know about it before 2 weeks ago, they had blow up houses, cotton candy, popcorn and military there.

Ok help me out here peeps!

My inlaws have an annual family BBQ every year. Last year it was in September. I emailed my mother in law in June asking her when the BBQ was and to please let us know so we can plan to be there. We live in Utah, they live in California. She emailed that is would be in August and she would let me know in advance.

Fast forward 2 weeks ago, and my husband gets a Facebook invite (not very reliable cause sometimes you don't get a notification for that). I didn't get a Facebook invite or email or anything. The BBQ was yesterday. Who in their right minds invites someone to an out of state FAMILY BBQ two weeks in advance?

So am I wrong to be upset about this? (and I know I make mountains out of mole hills, it's my diva personality)

ETA if you vote mother in law is right please help me understand why she is right. No voting and running!
