When we had a diaper service I loved the prefolds. Now that we do our own wash we use a mix of prefolds, and bum genius pockets. I like that the bum genius dry quickly when hanging up in our apartment. He sleeps in prefolds with a stay dry doubler and a wool cover (we are still working on the magic over night combo).

I am worried that he will out grow the bum genius super soon (lo is 21 pounds at 4.5 months). But I like the fit.

As for covers we loved imsie vimsie when he was small and now use thirsties. I had a bunch of others from friends and didn't like them. We have a few flip covers too and those are fine.

I didn't love fitteds. They just get so wet. Favorite cover brands are flip, thirsties duo, and bummis super whisper. Bummis and thirsties fit best when he was smaller even though I use a bigger size. I suppose I should have got all flips because they truly are one size that grows with him for his build. I love my blueberry all in ones (even though he's outgrown them early) and I always wanted to try their coverall.

I like both! I prefer cotton/natural fabrics and not stay dry fabrics. I used to fasten them with snappis but now I just trifold since they are way too small. I should probably size up but I have spent a lot of money on diapers. Like crazy amount. I just wanted to try everything! I learned I hate pockets and love all in one and prefolds! My all in ones are too small even though he's 10 lbs below the weight limit. I think it's his hips and belly :(

I use prefolds with covers(bummis and econobums). I went this route cause they're the cheapest, most flexible and forgiving. I didn't like the idea of fishing out pockets and AIOs have to be washed when there's a pee, whereas I can let my covers dry if there's no poo on them.

One thing that's not the best, is my daughter definitely needs a stay-dry liner with the prefolds to prevent rash or I have to change her right away. Adds another step that a lot of AIO have covered.

@lady baltimore: You don't have to let them air out. Just make sure no poop is on them and maybe wave them around a few times before putting it back on.

We actually hated using fitteds. The entire diaper gets completely soaked. We felt kind of gross using them and bad that so much wet diaper was touching DS's skin.

@autumnlove: @Mrs.Someone: @avivoca: Thanks for your replies! I definitely prefer the idea of being able to wash all of the diaper parts separately.

Do you find that its true you can use a cover several times between washings (letting it air out between wearings)?

Prefolds/fitted diapers are so easy to wash, but they take a LOT of prep work. You have to wash and dry them 6-8 times before using them. They also soften up over time, so they just keep getting better. For my next baby, I am planning on doing fitted diapers as a newborn and then moving into my prefold/one-size stash. For covers, my favorites are Flip and Thirsties. Bummis didn't fit my baby her well at all and best-bottoms covers felt cheap. For the price, I didn't think that Rumparooz covers were that great.

I bought my prefolds from Greenmountaindiapers.com.

Because the diaper service takes away dirties and returns clean diapers :) we like Flips hook & loop.

They were easy to wash (with BF poop)and dried quickly. I like Thirsties covers.

I am doing my research into cloth diapers (and trying to get comfortable with the lingo), and so far, I am liking the idea of using prefolds with covers (with maybe a few pocket AIOs for reluctant grandparents). If you use(d) prefolds/contours/fitteds, please tell me what you liked (and didn't) about them.

Also, any favorite/least favorite cover brands?
