LO had a bit of yeast on his butt, and we did the lotrimin thing and lots of pants free time. It cleared up in 3 days.

@MamaMoose: I think it might be a yeast infection due to the antibiotics. DD would get horrible yeast infections every time she had antibiotics - to the point where it would blister :-( She would scream in pain with every diaper change and touch.

Her pediatrician had us put a layer of Lotramin (the athletes foot cream) on the rash 3x a day, then put a layer of thick diaper cream (like Triple Paste) on top. Also, make sure to let her have some diaper free time if you can.

LO had diarrhea and diaper rash for a couple weeks because of a virus! i tried almost everything. the thing that worked for us is what coacheswife123 said. since the diaper rash was already full blown max strength desitin (the purple tube) was the only thing that worked. it smells nasty but it's the only thing that seemed like it helped. triple paste works for the mild diaper rashes (when there aren't any open sores). hope your LO is feeling better today!

For a normal rash we use triple paste. If he gets really red we use Max strength Desitin

I second what @LittleFox: said about the baking soda baths. We tried all the creams and stuff mentioned above and while they work, once I started doing the baking soda baths her diaper rash would go away faster.

@MamaMoose: I know this will sound crazy but go to a local ACE store and pick up a tube of Baby Anti Monkey Butt paste. When little man had a diaper rash that lasted for weeks on top of his ear infections? His little bum was so red from the yeast infection and the skin so weakened that just about every time I wiped? He bled. Broke my heart.

We would plop him down in a room temp (not hot but not cold) bath, gently pat dry, apply the paste and diaper. Cleared it up in days and Vandy Children's said it was as good if not better than the stuff they were going to make for him. Cheap, effective, creamy paste. A little goes a long way.

For regular (albeit terrible case) of diaper rash we had the most success with Dr. Smith's diaper cream. http://doctorsmiths.com/ Boudreaux's Butt Paste didn't do anything for C.

Triple Paste works well if there's yeast (has yeast meds in it), but Boudreaux's Butt Paste works better for us if it's just a true diaper rash--that stuff is AMAZING! (The way you can tell the difference between yeast and diaper rash is yeast looks blotchy and is more itchy to baby, diaper rash is all over red and stings, so baby won't like you wiping.)

It helps DS to get baths with baking soda when he's rashy. Just a couple of tablespoons in his bath water, and we let him play in the bath without using soap.

Maybe it's yeasty beasty. We got a cream that fought yeast when she had a diaper rash that wouldn't go away and it started clearing up pretty quick.

My LO had a never-ending diaper rash. It wasn't too severe but it just never went away for several months. I used to use pampers sensitive diapers but I switched to the 7th generation brand and it cleared right up within a week!

It could be yeast-related since she's on antibiotics. I'd try cutting out the breast milk (which yeast love) and using coconut oil instead. If it looks like it's yeast, you can also try putting some monistat (or other yeast infection cream) on it, or getting a prescription for a nystatin-based cream from your pediatrician.

Things have been ROUGH at our house lately. LO is currently in the process of cutting her first tooth and fighting her first ear infection! She's on amoxicillin for the ear infection which unfortunately gave her diarrhea which in turn resulted in a nasty red bottom! We've started her on probiotics which is helping with the diarrhea but this diaper rash is killing us. In the past she's only ever gotten a little red and BabyGanics Hiney Helper cleared it right up but day care said when they put it on her today she SCREAMED in pain. Since she's been home tonight this is what I've been doing: pat with a wipe to clean and the give lots of time to air dry... Then a layer of Breastmilk on the bum and let that dry.. Then a layer of beaudreaux's butt paste.. Then a layer of aquaphor to block moisture. Does that sound like a good plan? Any other suggestions?
