I was induced at 39w7d (day before EDD). Pretty close approximation (I didn't take exact notes on times):

7:30 AM-arrived at hospital
8:15 AM-into room/changed into gown/settled/hooked up to IV and monitors; internal check (2cm)
8:30 AM-pitocin started
10:30 AM-internal check (3cm?)
12:00PM-epidural administered (4cm)
12:30PM-doc broke my water
1:00PM-baby's heart rate dropped but oxygen and repositioning me stabilized it (too much happened in one hour with epidural and water being broken)
2:00PM-internal check (8cm); everything was set up for delivery
4:00PM-internal check (10cm, fully effaced); started practice pushes while waiting for doc
4:54PM-DD arrived

My nurse told me active labor lasted about 5 hours.

My doc hadn't given me any instructions on whether to eat or not prior to arriving at the hospital and so I had some yogurt, glad I did because once I was admitted I couldn't have anything except ice chips. They brought me dinner about an hour after LO was born.

I was induced at 40w1d due to high blood pressure, low platelets and proteins in my urine. I got cervidil at 6pm on Friday, water broke on it's own at 5am Saturday when I rolled over in the hospital bed, contractions started almost immediately after, I had back labor because of a sunny side up baby & got epidural at 2pm-ish, DS was born at 8:17pm.

Also, I was 0 dilated when I arrived. Nothing was going on there whatsoever, lol

Came into the hospital the night before my delivery. They put in some Cervadil, but after a couple of hours it was causing the baby's heart beat to decline, so then they had to use this water balloon a.k.a. old school method of opening up my cervix. The nurse told me that the balloon was painful, so I asked to get my epi before they put the balloon in and I literally felt no pain until the epi fell out, but NO ONE believed me (that's another story). Then the next morning, they broke my water and I was ready to push. I ended up having my baby vaginally.

@mediagirl: I didn't have a scheduled induction. I went in for a urinalysis and blood draw and ended up being induced immediately, because of some pending complications. I went 41 hours without food (I tried eating the night before but ended up not being able to keep any food down which is what prompted me to call my doctor that morning). I think that was the worst part of my experience. They managed to get me some food pretty quickly after LO was born, it could have been dirt and I would have eaten it!
My induction took 22 hours from start to finish, ,the MD used three doses of cytotec ( I had been at about 1 cm for 2 weeks). I got an epidural at 6/7 centimeters (about 17 hours into the process), no pitocin required, I pushed for 14 minutes.

@mediagirl: I didn't eat for well over 30 hours. I was only hungry the first few hours at the hospital, and not toward the end, of labor.
I was starving after delivery but had to wait another 12+ hours after surgery to eat. :( That was tough.

@mediagirl: I should add that I was able to eat during most of my labor if I wanted to. They even had a tray delivered to me when I started the pitocin. I was also encouraged to drink water throughout labor (that was DHs job, to make sure I had water between contractions).

@mediagirl: haha i know how you feel! I have ZERO tolerance for pain. I did want to try to go sans epidural the second time around but knew i'd be to chicken to decline it when they asked. Luckily I didn't have time for it... and glad I did it sans! but then again, it was my second. (much faster!)

@mediagirl: Yup it is, but at the same time, (i'm not sure if you want an epidural) you can't eat on that stuff because you;ll simply barf! Honestly, just sucking on ice made me puke.. but that's the effects of drugs for ya!

@blushink: the being hungry part really worries me! I love to eat so I'm hoping I can eat something substantial before I'm admitted. Still....24 hours or so (give or take) is a long time without food!

Great...another thing to worry about. Hahaha. They just keep adding up. I think I need to go write a blog post just to get all of my worries out in one place. lol

My induction.... went in at 8, got prepped and got our room at 8:30... the doc arrived at 9. They broke my water, and started on the pitocin to start the contractions...
I asked for the epidural at noon, got it at 1:30 (at this point I was 4cm, 80%) things started getting hectic at 8ish, I pushed for 2:30 hours, my son was stuck (big head) but he finally came out at 10:50pm. I was starving! That's what kept me going. ha

I was induced and it went wayyyyyyyy better than I ever imagined. I was terrified too because I wanted a natural labor so bad, and I knew I was kind of going in the opposite direction with induction. I can't post in detail cuz I am on my phone right now, but I will hop on shortly and give you the story. In the mean time you can check out my birth story.

Don't be nervous....trust your doctors and nurses! I had an amazing experience overall (even though my epidural didn't work the first time). I was in labor for 14.5 hours.

Went in on Sunday night and started cervidil at 7. Was only 1cm when I went in. Was still 1cm in the a.m. I was given a dose of misoprostyl to continue ripening cervix. Pitocin was started at noon on Monday. My contracrions got intense at 3 p.m. Baby girl was born just before 9 p.m. after 40 minutes of pushing. I went through it without pain meds. It was intense, but was a great experience!

My induction story is similar to @artbee's .... I was scheduled for a Thursday induction at 39 weeks (high BP) but my water broke Monday morning at 6 a.m. I still had pitocin because my contractions didn't start on their own, though, so still technically an induction, I guess. I got an epi late that afternoon and he was born vaginally at 9:45 at night.

Happy to share my mostly positive induction story! My water broke on Saturday afternoon (a week before my due date) and I had tested positive for Group B Strep, so I had to go to the hospital right away to get hooked up antibiotics (midwife's orders). I didn't go into labor that day or the next morning, so they finally started me on Pitocin at around 10:00am on Sunday. It was intense, but my LO was out by 7:30pm. No c-section, no drugs.

I started cervidil Tuesday night. Water broke naturally Wednesday morning (6am) i was able to labor naturally until 2-3 when i asked for the epidural but got stadol until the anthesiologist could come i was so relaxed! Started pushing at 10pm Wednesday. She was born at 1 am (early Thursday morning) and we got to our room about 4 am. I guess my total time in labor and delivery was Tuesday at 8pm through Thursday at 4 am so 32 hours

Check out my birth story. I missed a few details like the throwing up during transition/pushing, but for the most part, though I wasn't technically "induced" I was pretty much induced since my contractions were so irregular and my water broke with meconium in it. I was put on pitocin (but not cervadil or anything to ripen my cervix) immediately. When I showed up, I was 1cm, 75% effaced.

I ended up with a c-section and have still not quite come to terms with it.

So, I went in for my 40 week appointment today and I'm still not dilated. I am scheduled for my induction next Thursday at 7:30pm. My OB today explained what they do for an induction. OMG, freaking out.

Tell me your induction story. How long did it take from start of induction to the baby showing up? What procedures did the doctors perform during your induction? Did you end up with a c-section in the end? Anything else you want to share? :)
