I can totally relate to this dilemma. I was laid off 2 days after finding out I was pregnant, so looking for a new job was tricky. (It was also a blessing in disguise, as I was able to spend my first trimester in the comfort of my own home). I tried to do as much research on the best approach to spill the news about my pregnancy, and in the end it really depends on what you are comfortable with. I wanted the decision to hire me to be based on my experience, so I decided to let the employer know if/when an offer was made, and then would gauge their reaction to the news. If they were not too happy about it, I would probably have passed on the opportunity, as it would not have been a good fit anyway.

I interviewed at my current job at around 12 weeks pregnant and not really showing. Got the offer, then broke the news. Needless to say, it threw my current company through the loop, and basically delayed my hiring process and start date, but I'm glad I went the route I did. It allowed me to be completely clear about my expectations of maternity leave (since I don't quality for FMLA), and to make sure we would be a right fit for each other.

You are totally within your right to withhold the information until you are hired. I just wasn't comfortable not telling them before I accepted the offer. Do whatever you feel is right for you.

Hope this helped!

This is a great topic as I'm looking to start looking for another job, but want to know what's the best approach on when to reveal (should I conceive prior to interviews)! Subscribing to get more advice.

I would wait for as long as possible. You don't really start showing until 20 weeks, so I'd wait til 16-20 before you spill.

I would wait until around 14-16 weeks if you can. That still gives them plenty of notice.

I would tell them at the end of your first trimester. Once you are less likely to MC, but still giving them the heads up before you are showing and can't hide it.

I think a major factor is whether you want to come back to this job after you have the baby. If so, I'd discuss it after you get the offer to make arrangements for leave, since you may not be eligible under traditional FMLA or other coverage. If you already know you are 100% not coming back, then I suppose you could just wait a few months, prove yourself on the job, and if someone asks why you didn't mention it from the start just say you weren't comfortable discussing it publically so early in your pregnancy and wanted to wait. This could maybe affect how they view you, but if you are leaving anyway, the only issue you might have is if you wanted to use them as a reference down the road.

Wait as long as you can -- maybe four months? A teller job is something where they can easily replace you when needed.

Since moving for DH's job in February I have been actively looking to start a career with my degree. Until finding out that I am pregnant I decided it's not the best time to start and the job market where we are currently living is horrendous for my field. My husband's position is keeping us comfortable with just his income...

So to get out of the house and make a few bucks, I recently applied to part-time teller positions at two banks here and had two interviews and will probably hear back next week.

So if I get the job when would be the appropriate time to tell them I'm pregnant ( I'm 8W4D now). I hate how society makes woman feel "guilty" about being pregnant and working. If I start working I hope to be able to work a few good weeks before anyone can realize so I can create a good relationship with my manager and coworkers so I don't look like a jerk who knew I was pregnant when I was applying and going to "leave them" to have a baby....

What is the appropriate "time" to tell
