We told my brother and SIL to not tell my nephews yet. Going to do the same when we see and tell DH's sis and BIL. Two of the four are old enough to get excited about a cousin coming. So we are waiting to tell them till the 2nd tri.

Personally, I would until you are 13 weeks just to be on the safe side. I don't think it should be hard to ask the adults in the family to keep the information from the children. Especially given what they experienced in the past.

There are three kids in my immediate family, ranging from 5-8. I'll be 10 weeks on Sunday, and we were planning on telling our families this weekend. BUT I'm a little hesitant about telling the kids. My sister had a miscarriage last year (I think she was 8 weeks?) and the kids were devastated by it. When she got pregnant again, they thought that something was going to happen again, or that the baby was going to not be alive when it came out. They were so worried through the whole pregnancy and it was SO hard to watch!

I'm terrified to tell them too early in case (heaven forbid) something happens, but I don't know how we could hide it from them but tell the rest of the family? I'll be 10 weeks when we tell them, do you think that's too early? We're also terribly excited to tell DH's son, and waiting 2 more weeks seems like an eternity!!!!
