Remember that with charting you're really looking for patterns. One or two odd temps should not prevent you from seeing a obvious temp rise. I think as long as you take your temp roughly the same time you'll be able to see the pattern.

@wonderstruck: I wouldn't worry about one temp. You can delete if you want but it is not going to be make or break, especially so early in your cycle. I am happy to help!!

@MamaCate: Thank you so much! I've looked at lots of people's charts but it can be tough when you're new to it, so I really appreciate you looking at mine and giving me some feedback! I may just delete that first temperature - I wasn't at rest when I took it and made a few other mistakes on that first day, so I don't know that it's really a valid result anyways.

@wonderstruck: if you ignore the first temp while you had AF, I think that you have a reasonable amount if variation. I looked at my last finished cycle and I had within about 0.8 variation in those initial temps. For me, it worked to look for O by watching for a temp drop combined with fertile CM, which should be followed by a temp rise that is sustained. On my cycles, sometimes the temp spikes (like by nearly a degree) and sometimes it gradually climbs. I remember finding charting sooo confusing when I first started but once you see your own patterns, it gets easier.

Hoping this is your month! Let me know if you have more questions. I am on my phone so I can't figure out how to easily link to my chart but I can tonight if you think it would help.

@Cole: My only concern is setting an alarm and then being woken up by my son before it goes off, then I'll have to do it early.

@Mae: I haven't heard the +/- 3 hours thing, I'm pretty much always within that window, so that makes me feel a bit better!

@MamaCate: Would you mind looking at mine and seeing how all over the place you think it is? I'm new to this and don't know my patterns yet, so I'm second guessing a lot! http://www.fertilityfriend.com/home/wonderstruck

How "all over the place" is all over the place? My temp varies quite a bit the first part of my cycle and I have stopped worrying about it.

So we did not TTC for #2 until my LO was about 20 months, and I don't know how old your LO is...however, I was able to get pregnant the first month trying with charting (although that pregnancy ended in a m/c and we are now trying again). I just wanted my temperature to be "good enough" to make sure I could see the overall pattern of my cycles etc.

I did get up at night sporadically with my LO, and up to pee within the 2-3 hours before that you are "supposed" to be in bed. But I could see the overall idea. I do always wake up between 5:45-6:45 so there is not that much variability.

I don't know if that helps or not...wall me if you want and i can link you to my charts...

I can't help much because I don't have a lo yet but I had a couple of thoughts. I get up at different times each day so I set an alarm on my phone just to vibrant and sleep with it under my pillow. It doesn't wake dh up and then I go back to sleep until my real alarm. There are also calculators online to help you adjust your temp when they are taken at different times but I think it is intended more for the one off times. Could you just set an alarm at your most likely to be fertile time? Some people don't even bother temping for the whole cycle so it is certainly an option.

Good luck!

I used a Lady Comp (fertility computer that takes your basal temperature) for a year. The "rule" was you had to take your temp +/- 3 hours from when you took it the day before, when you had at least 5 hours of sleep, and at least 2 hrs of uninterrupted sleep (i.e. if I get up to use the bathroom fine, but had to be at least 2 hrs after I got back in bed that I took my temp).

Honestly I think it would be really hard if you have a kid who still wakes you up in the middle of the night! I don't plan to do it anymore after my LO is born. But if it is just wake-up time that is the problem, I'd just set an alarm. I always set my alarm for 530 because I was always asleep by 1230 and never woke up on my own before 530. I'd just wake up, temp, and go back to sleep. I got so used to doing it that honestly I had 0 memory of it most days, I was just on autopilot.

After 4 unsuccessful months of TTC with ovulation tests, I've started temping to try to better understand my cycle and figure out when I'm ovulating. I've been reading a lot of threads about it on here and have been using a basal thermometer every morning to take my temperature internally before I get out of bed since I know it's important to do it when your body is at rest and has been asleep for several hours.

I've only been doing it for about a week and a half now, but I feel like my temps are all over the place, and I'm wondering if the fact that I don't always do it at exactly the same time is the reason - sometimes my son wakes me up at 6:30, but some days it's not until 8. Does the time of day make a big difference if it's always as soon as you wake up? And if so, how have you guys who already have a baby managed to achieve this? I can set an alarm, but there's always the chance of him waking me up before it goes off...unless I set it for like 5AM and totally mess up DH's sleep. Not sure what the best way to handle this is.
