@Mrs. Cowgirl: OH ok. I wasn't sure if you were talking about behavioral tests or something.

Wow, this thread is a scary preview into the future!

@Andrea: they were just different tests to see if he was sick -- she did a strep test and a urine sample to rule out a UTI and when everything came back negative and he sounded and looked clear in his chest, eyes, nose, and ears, she was kinda like, "i think he's moody and irritable because that's what's developmental at this point" nice.

My stepson didn't have Terrible 2s, he had god awful horrific 3s. I'm seriously surprised DH and I managed to stay together that year, it was THAT bad! Honestly, the best thing you can do is just be consistent and stand your ground. I think for my SS, it was the discovery of free will and "I don't have to do what you tell me to" and then being frustrated when we stood our ground as grown ups.

Create boundaries and stick to them! You'll get through it!

Yes it's worse. I think it's because they are able to verbalized more and the defiance is more clear. I have thre little three year old boys and sometimes it's a nightmare. I have found that the worst mood swings often come with a growth spurt. Then they mellow out a bit. But I do have or son who just says (i use that term loosely because sometimes he's screaming or crying)no to everything. It is irritating as heck.

@Honeybee: @NYCaliMama: @Andrea: Ive heard the same from other people as well. We were hoping we'd be spared i guess.

@MamaMoose: Luckily, LO is not the adventurous type!

@HeatherlovesKenny: I'll try to remember that when he's in one of his moods.

@Mrs. Cowgirl: I've thought about bringing him in to get his mental state analyzed. I keep telling my sitter that i think he's a little bipolar.

@BoogieBea: oh, boy. we're heading in that direction. since lil' CB was 2 and 9 months, things have started to go downhill with the crazy dr. jekyll/mr. hyde mood swings! i even brought him to the doctor because at one point, he was so irritable and moody (and also had a very mild, lowgrade fever), that i thought surely something must be wrong! our doctor ran a bunch of tests, but in the end, when everything came back negative, she pretty much said, "i think it's just him turning 3...i'm so sorry."
hahahaha! (<--- laughing because otherwise i would cry.)

Yes! 3's have been so much harder than the 2's. Huge tantrums and super testy :( I keep practicing super nanny techniques.

But I read awhile ago that tantrums mean your child trusts you and that's why they are so upset.

@MamaMoose: Haha! That makes me feel better.

@Andrea: haha yes. I was very naughty and constantly testing boundaries so it was a battle to keep me from injuring myself! And perhaps she also considered dropping me off at a bus station or something once or twice : )

Yes, I do feel like the 3s were tough for DD1... Could also be though that her little sis came along when she was 3 though. She also just tested our patience so much more... It wasn't easy.

Things are much better now that she's 4.5 though! Still hard at times, of course... But I do feel it gets better every year after the 2-3 yo stage.

My son just turned 3 and he's been very moody, oversensitive lately. Sometimes he'll lash out on his sister, sometimes at us. We've been putting him through a lot of summer activities, so perhaps he feels like he doesn't have a say in anything? I have a feeling his third year will be much harder than his second year. Did anyone else experience terrible 3s with their toddlers?
