@creativemomma15: here are some guidelines on awake time for the 3 to 2 nap transition from a sleep chart that I foodne online

Max (well-rested) WTs have more range once on a 2 nap schedule:
6/7 months (on a 3 nap schedule): 1.75-2/2-2.25/2.25-2.5/2.25-2.5
7/8 months (just transitioning to 2 naps): 2.25-2.5/2.5-2.75/2.5-3
8 months (on 2 naps): 3/3-3.25/3-3.5
9 months (on 2 naps for a while): 3-3.25/3.25-3.5/3.25-4
10 months:

I just transitioned my LO to a 2 nap schedule a couple of weeks ago and I was really surprised to find out that he can stay awake much longer than the recommended max awake times. He also has a much longer nap when his awake time was longer, especially when his first nap was a long one.

LO is currently 7 months, 9 days old and his awake times are 3 hours, 3.25- 3.5 hours, 3.75 hours.

I was really afraid of getting him overtired with long awake times but he seems to need it to sleep better. His naps are now about 1.5 hours each and he seems happier and better rested.

Dropping a nap is always tricky!! It always took a week or two of switching back and forth for Wagon Jr. to take to it. And a few car naps very late in the afternoon... :) whatever it takes to get him to sleep, right? Ohhhh so much gas wasted...

Sorry for not responding to your posts earlier! Basically, we were trying to transition him from 3 naps to 2. It worked great the first few days, so I was very hopeful, then our days of terrible naps happened! Saturday we did 3 naps again because he just couldn't make it in 2 and it seemed to work great. He was up about 2 hours after his wake up, then slept 2 hours, was up 2.5 hours, slept 45 minutes, then was only up about 1.5 hours and slept another 1.5 hours. Yesterday was just terrible because we had a family dinner so he didn't nap well in general, but we expected that. I am not really sure where to go from here. I guess he is just not ready for 2 naps yet? (He just turned 8 months last week and was 1 month early, so I have heard people say he would be more like a 7 month old sleep wise then)

I guess I will just play it by ear and see how he does today? I just stressed because I was looking forward to a more consistent schedule and thought I finally had it! O well. Thanks for your advice ladies!

What is his awake time between the first and second nap? When my DS fights naps or has a short nap, alot if times it is because he is not tired enough. Maybe your LO can stay awake longer now that he is 8 months?

My DS is 11 mos old. He was a pretty good napper until about 6 weeks ago, around 9 mos. But before that, he would occasionally have a few days, even a week, where he would be a terrible napper, like your little guy. I would always stress, search the web, find a million reasons, try to fix this and that, but essentially he always returned to his regular nap schedule. When he went from 3 naps to 2, it all went to heck, but sounds like you were already at 2 :) I would say give it another few days before you stress too much.

I've always had to fight with my almost 9 month old to take afternoon naps. I have to rock him in my arms and he spends about the first five minutes crying, rubbing his eyes the whole time. How close is he to 9 months old, there is suppose to be some sleep regression around 9 months old so maybe that is what it is?

My son just turned 8 months old and is having terrible naps the past few days. His morning nap is great, sleeping 1 1/2 to 2 hours but his afternoon nap has been terrible! He fights going to sleep, today it took an hour, then he only sleeps for 30-40 minutes and wakes up screaming, still exhausted. I have no idea what to do or try. The past two days I have ended up with his sleeping in my arms for another hour or more, but the fight to get him back to sleep is terrible. He is currently crying in his crib after waking up after a 30 minute nap. :(

Any advice?
