Sigh. My son is starting to hit the terrible twos I'm afraid. :( He's 2 so I guess I expected it coming. He goes bonkers when he doesn't get his way. And he has full meltdowns when he's trying to do something and can't, like shove his long xylophone sticks into his piggy bank. I think it doesn't help that he's a late talker so he can't really express himself verbally. I usually just let him have his meltdown and just watch so that he doesn't get hurt. He knows i don't like it when he does that because I'll purposely have a frown on my face. Sometimes he comes up to me afterwards and burrows his face on my lap if he knows I'm upset. But usually he just has his melt down and then goes on with his day. SIIIIIIGH.....

@Rubies: lol, usually I try to distract my LO with something else and she gets over it quickly. Especially if we're in public....

Baby Y is just a bit older and he definitely has meltdowns when he doesn't get what he wants. They're fairly mild BUT a lot worse if he's hungry or tired, though.

@Maysprout: LOL. It's funny you mentioned, "...crying on the floor until she decided life wasn't that bad." LO was pissed off at me because I wouldn't let her eat my cell phone and she just melted down. She laid on the ground and cried and cried while I watched in utter despair. I had no idea what I was supposed to do so I just left her and watched it all unfold. Eventually, I think she forgot what she was crying about because she just stopped and went back to playing. SIGH. Weirdo.

Yes, I had a couple posts around that time about LO being super difficult. She was cutting teeth but I think it was also a developmental thing with her learning to express opinions loudly and me sometimes being able to know what she wanted, sometimes not and sometimes not wanting to just respond to her every demand.

It's a bit better now but this morning she woke up cranky and just ended up crying on the floor until she decided life wasn't that bad. I'm not always sure what to do, sometimes I hold her and sometimes I just let her work it out for herself.

My lo also freaks out if she doesn't get what she wants. I'm not sure if I should let her so she learns that she can't always get what she wants, or if she's too young too know any better.

Charlie was really bad for a month or so a while ago and we thought for sure that he had started his terrible twos. But it turned out that he was just sick and in a bad mood!

Hope your LO is nice again soon! :)

Haha, yes. DD started to throw tantrums EARLY. The 2 year thing isn't a definitely starting point that is for sure. But I think it is also can be a communication issue. Once she started to have some words around 15 months, the tantrums got a lot better.

Arghhhhhhhhhh. LO is a few days shy of 11-months and for the past three days as been a real pill! UGH! I like to think she might be cutting a tooth but her behaviour doesn't reflect it entirely. She's throwing crazy tantrums if she doesn't get her way (normal to some extent, I'm sure), and is just being a big ol' meany-pants!

Anyone experience this?
