I have no advice or answers, but I am also terrified of it..my LO is three months. I've decided to just wing it and subscribe to it's not a problem until it is a problem (until it happens.)

We never had a 4 month sleep regression. We had a "I'm teething and want to be cuddled all the time" regression but that was in her 5th month. Some babies go through the 4 month regression, some don't. I hope yours doesn't!!

DS is 23 weeks and wakes up every 2-3 hours at night, some days it's rough but you know what, you get through it just fine. It's perfectly normal for babies to sleep badly, my advice is not to get too stressed about it, some day LO will sleep (I hope and pray!)

We didn't have a great sleeper on our hands either - he only started sleeping in longer stretches around 9 weeks and then at 12 weeks had a crazy growth spurt week and by 3.5 months was in the 4 month sleep regression. Took forever to get down at night and was up multiple times a night and started only taking 30 minute naps. We quasi sleep trained at 4 months. Weaned from the swaddle, put him in his crib and let him cry a little at bedtime. He eventually learned how to put himself to sleep on his own and at 4.5 months his sleep was better than pre-regression. His naps took until almost 6 months to sort out.

We never went through a sleep regression. The only time he sometimes has trouble sleeping long stretches is when he is sick and one time when he was teething.

DS is 4.5 months and he didnt seem to have much of a regression - he's been sleeping through the night for awhile and recently he'll be wide awake in the middle of the night, but I can get him back down in 10-15 min by rocking him. It's not that big of a deal, and it only happens 1-2x a week.

You'll get through it! and dont feel like a failure...every kid of different! Last week @MrsWagon had a board post about naps, check it out and you'll be reassured at all the car-nappers out there.

@Weagle - I agree on the developmental thing!

Don't fear it. As with all things baby, it's just a phase and will be over before you know it :) She will sleep!

My LO stopped napping around 2.5 weeks old, and people around me kept making me feel bad because she didn't. I was constantly told to make a schedule and CIO and blah, blah, blah. But all of a sudden she started napping again. I'm convinced that naps/nighttime sleep are a developmental thing. I think it's different with each baby, but there comes a point where they are just able to do it better.

It will pass! Sounds like you may have already gone through the worst of it!

My LO did well when she went to daycare. She napped there but still came home tired. We just had to make sure she didn't nap too late but she slept pretty well at night.

Ours didn't hit at 4 months, it happened just after 3 months. Don't fear it, just go with what you are given. Start good habits early, and it will help as they grow.

We never had a four month sleep regression so it is definitely possible you might skip it altogether! My only advice is to not worry about what may or may not eventuate; enjoy the sleep now and keep optimistic that it will keep getting better...because you know what? It will. Hang in there mama!

This too shall pass, is the only advice I can give. My LO is 3.5 months and some days she will go down great for a nap, but only sleep 45 minutes (this is more normal than I realized), other times she is a monster and will have a heck of a time falling asleep. I'd say her naps vary between 10-120 minutes. At night she sometimes goes down without a fight, but sometimes she throws a fit for 45 minutes. Some nights she wakes up every 2-3 hours, but like last week, and then again last night, she slept until 3-4am before waking up (going to bed at 7pm), to eat. This stage only lasts so long, just hang in there and bear through it!

My LO is not the world's greatest sleeper (an understatement). In her first two months of life, she was, I thought, an average sleeper for a newborn. After the first few weeks (when she had her days/nights mixed up and didn't want to sleep at night unless being held), she would sleep 2-3 hours between feedings. It wasn't fun but it wasn't horrible either. As she approached two months, we started getting longer stretches of 4-5 hours and I thought things were on a good path. But at about 9 weeks, things started going downhill. She didn't sleep as well during the day-- easily overtired if we missed the 90 minute waketime window and really needed to be soothed to sleep (rather than just going to sleep whenever she was tired). And at night, she seemed to revert to waking up at least every 2 hours whether or not she was hungry, and that was after we'd spend upwards of 1.5 hours trying to get her to go down for the night.

Then a couple of weeks ago, things started to get a little better and she is back to where she was at 8 weeks--sleeping 4-6 hours stretches and only waking once or twice at night to eat. Her daytime napping is only ok (more often than not she takes 30 minute naps) but she goes down pretty easily most of the time.

LO will be 4 months in a week and a half and I am terrified of another sleep regression. The last month or so have been pretty hard on me-- I felt more exhausted than when she was first born (and often like a failure for not being able to help her sleep better). I'll also be going back to work after the holidays. Any chance that we experienced her sleep regression early? Or should I just try and accept the fact that the better pattern we are seeing these days is only temporary??
