@Rocker2014: We did this as well with our first baby. Current baby has been great at sleeping in the crib or pack and play from birth and is a much quieter sleeper. She is still in our room at 14 weeks.

I hold his arms while I put him down and then keep holding them for a minute until he gets settled. That usually works for us! Good luck back at work!

If you did want the transition to be more gradual, you could keep him in the R&P, but in his room instead of yours. My LO slept so much better in her R&P (reflux), but was such a noisy sleeper that we had to get her out of our room because we were getting no rest at all. She slept in the R&P right next to her crib for a few more months, and we were all pretty happy.

Once they can roll, it is no longer safe to swaddle. Our swaddleme products all had warning labels emphasizing this.

Yeah, my son started sleeping on his belly 99% of the time after he flipped from back to front. He couldn't roll from front to back for a long time. Just get the breathable mesh bumpers because they get their limbs stuck in the crib slats a lot once they start rolling. If you're really worried, you can get him a Zippadeezip.

you shouldn't swaddle him anymore now that he is rolling. He'll either become a tummy sleeper or figure out how to roll tummy to back if you give it a few days. We moved DD out of our room at 4 months - the same time she started rolling back to tummy and we unsaddled her all at once. She had rolled tummy to back a few times but not consistently at that point. Night one she rolled onto her tummy and screamed. I flipped her over and this continued all night long. Night two was slightly better and i just patted/shushed her to sleep on her belly when she rolled. Night three she was a tummy sleeper. At some point oner the next few weeks she became consistent at rolling tummy to back. I did lots of tummy time during the day to try to help encourage it. But, basically he is fine if he can roll to his tummy himself, even if he can't roll back.

@Mrs Hedgehog: Our pediatrician said that once a baby is able to get themselves to their belly, that they are fine to sleep that way. DD became a stomach sleeper as soon as she learned how to flip!

@Mrs Hedgehog: can he roll even in a sleep sack or swaddled? When my DD first learned to roll back to belly, she couldnt do it in a sleepsack. By the time she was able to do, so she was old enough that she had learned to roll belly to back also so i wasn't concerned.

@Mrs Hedgehog: If he can roll to his belly, the head control is there that I don't think you need to be too concerned about him not being able to move his head when necessary.

@Mrs.KMM: @Adira: the concern of him rolling to his tummy and not being able to roll back is still there, swaddled or not.

@Mrs.KMM: he isn't swaddled in the RNP but any time I try to lay him down in his crib his arms fly out and he wakes up. I'm thinking it's because he has more room for his arms to move vs it being somewhat cradled in the RNP. He does better when he is swaddled in his crib though.

I agree with @Mrs.KMM: just stop swaddling. It might take a week or so for your LO to get used to it, but he'll be fine!

Why don't you just stop swaddling him? He may do better than you think!

We quit swaddling as soon as DD learned to roll from back to belly (she could not go the other way yet). She immediately started sleeping so much better!

So DS is 11 weeks and has been in the RNP in our room. My husband is ready for him to move to his crib, I am not. It will make it easier when I start back at work on the 29 if he isn't in our room risking us waking him while I get ready.

Here is the rub. I finally agreed to move him this week. To fall asleep in his crib. We need to swaddld him because his arms flair out when we lay him down. But suddenly he has learned to roll from back to front. He doesn't yet know how to roll from front to back. So I am terrified of him being swaddled and rolling onto his tummy and getting stuck and we don't notice.... Ugh... Why can't kids be easy?
