I put our dog in there and I felt like it was a good representation lol. He loved it too! I just washed it after. Borrow a friend's under 20 lb pup!

I think you would have to wait and see, because the size and proportions of your baby will impact how much you love or don't love each type of carrier

The store I bought mine at has dolls you can use as a stand in. I wanted to have one on hand, and I didn't want to go out right after he's born because I'm due at the end of November. So it'll likely be cold and could be snowy.

@PurplePeony: I tried mine on with a teddy bear. DH laughed at me. I also went to a store that carried them and they had a life size doll but it wasn't weighted.

Thanks! I know it will be different when I have my actual baby in it, but mostly I wanted to make sure the size is okay and generally just play with it :) I might wrap a small towel or blanket around a bag of flour just to get a very general sense of how it fits -- seems like that would work pretty well! I went to a baby stuff store where they had weighted dolls to use as testers but they only carry Ergos and Bjorns so it wasn't very helpful. I think we'll eventually get an Ergo or a Beco Gemini, but I'm not going to do that until the LO is a couple months old so we can actually test them. But I figured that at $25, the k'tan was worth a try regardless.

I had a K'tan that was way too small... Just try it on without baby and you'll still be able to tell how it fits YOU, I think.

you could also use a bag of flour like a previous poster suggested... Or a rolled up towel or two?

I went to a babywearing store and tried on carriers while pregnant and they had bags of rice and dolls for people to carry around...

I would just wait. I actually brought LO with me to the store to test it out and I still picked one that didn't seem to work for us. Even if you test on another baby, each baby is different, will fit different, will like it or dislike it. You just never know with baby stuff!

I ordered a k'tan off NBD because it was super cheap and I rarely see them in my size. But since the LO isn't due for another 5 months, I'm not sure how to test it out! We have some friends with babies around 6-8 months old, but none younger so I don't know if "borrowing" one would work, haha. And at home, we don't have any big stuffed animals or anything...just a cat who certainly won't consent to be the tester (not to mention, I don't want to get the carrier all hairy). Any ideas? Or do I just wait and see how it goes once the baby actually comes?
