As a buyer, You get cash back at close for using Redfin. Realtors offer a service, but the internet makes a lot of their work obsolete to buyers and sellers. Personally, I'm ready for it to happen. We have broker fees for rentals in NYC. I had to pay 1.5 months rent to a broker when all she did was unlock the door for me after I did an exhaustive search online. I did most of the paperwork. I dropped off checks. She wasn't even showing us mustiple listings. I just found the open house on Craigslist and she happened to be at the door. I personally feel that realtors are in a dying industry. Redfin etc will disrupt them just like uber has disrupted taxis. It's also not uncommon for realtors to receive small gifts such flowers or a written thank you. Do what's in your heart. </p> <p>I'm surprised some people think of the commission as a gift. Commission is not a gift, it's a fee for a service. He dropped by the house after the baby was born with a gift for the little guy. I wrote up a testimonial he was able to use for his website and as an evaluation because of how we found him- corporate relo. Is it customary to give a thank you gift to our Realtor? He does work for himself, but he works under a broker (Remax). He has been working with us for about three years while we looked for our first house. I feel kind of strange not getting him something, but I also don't know if it will be weird. </p>
