Congrats on you LO! If you're not up to writing them then I wouldn't worry about it until you get home. If you need something to pass the time while LO sleeps then you can start writing them.

When DD was in the NICU I sat by her bassinet about 12 hours a day. Since she was only awake a couple of hours I spent the rest of the time writing TY notes. It helped my take my mind off things and feel productive. I was happy that I didn't have to worry about it once I got home.

Don't worry about it at all - do them whenever you feel like you can, if you want to. Everyone will understand.
You must be so stressed enough as it is, this is something you should not worry about.

Your little sweetie will be home soon! xo

Congrats on your LO, and I hope you're all home soon!

I would be shocked to receive a thank-you note when your LO is in NICU, so I wouldn't even worry a whit about doing them now. Wait until you're home, I'm positive everyone will understand.

I've been carrying the list in my bag with a box of notes. Originally I'd planned to write them in the NICU but LO has been SO active these past two days, I've just been snuggling him, changing his diaper, giving every bottle feeding, and pumping in between all that.

I don't feel so bad for waiting until we get home now.

Thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it!

I wrote half of my thank yous in the NICU. I just found them the other day and realized that I forgot to send them! I hope everyone is understanding - I think 90% are.

I had my baby shower a week before LO was born (she was 5 weeks early!). I didn't send TY notes until after she left the NICU and we were settled in at home. Focus on you and your baby. Late thank you notes will be just fine. I hope LO comes home soon!

seriously don't worry about it at ALL. i would send them one day... maybe like in 3 or 4 months? :) no pressure at all! if you felt bad waiting that long, you could also send an email out when you and baby get home to just say thank you again :)

Congrats on your los arrival! It sounds like your Dh has a great group of coworkers who will totally understand your need to focus on baby. Fwiw, i sent a shower present to a friend in march and it was easily a month before i got a thank you, and her LO hasnt arrived yet.

Alternately, if you are really stressing maybe DH could do some?

I would wait until you are home. You need to give yourself time to heal and give your family every ounce of love and attention that you have in you. I remember being SO exhausted, pumping every 3 seconds and spending all my other time with LO in the NICU. My mom asked me daily if I had written thank you notes yet and I finally broke down in hysterics at her for badgering me about them. That was the last thing I needed on my mind and it should be the last thing you are worried about right now. People will understand. I definitely believe in still sending them out but people won't care whether it is 3 days after you receive the gift or 2 weeks after you get home with baby. Take care of yourself first and go cuddle that sweet baby of yours!! The rest will fall into place once you get home.

Congratulations! Praying you and your baby are home as soon as possible!

I can't imagine anyone faulting you for sending ty notes a little late. Maybe you can split the task with your husband once you're home. I know your husband already sent an e-mail but maybe you can write one note of general thanks to hang up in the break room in the meantime if it makes you feel better.

Congrats on your baby!

My brother was born at 24 weeks and spent 6 months in the NICU. During that time, friends and family were amazingly supportive and bought my parents pretty much everything they needed (they weren't prepared AT ALL for him to come that early). My parents pretty much lived at the hospital during that time though and had no time for thank you cards. They pretty much just thanked people in person or over the phone when they had the chance. Some never even got a formal thank you. Everyone understood though and no one expected anything else. Etiquette rules go out the window when you have more important things (like the health of your child) to worry about.

Congratulations! Taking care of you, your Lo, and DH come first. If its the last thing you want to do right now then wait. If you are spending hours twiddling your thumbs & need something to do then you could always work on them. I probably wouldn't be able to concentrate enough. Maybe having a family member do them? Then they feel good about helping & you get the help? Idk now I'm just babbling. Take care of yourself.

Our LO was born at 35w3d and has been in NICU for 6 days. There was a shower planned weeks in advance by my husband's coworkers and he went to it. I stayed with LO in the NICU.

It was quite a huge shower, several different departments were there, it was obviously well planned and they put a lot of time and effort into it.

I feel horrible because I haven't written thank you notes yet. Everyone was extremely generous and thoughtful and I truly appreciate it but right now, I'm spending ~14 hours a day with LO in the NICU, I just come home to shower and take 2 catnaps in between pumping sessions.

Would it be acceptable/understandable to send them a few weeks late? Or... Not at all? I'm usually right on top of this but being with LO is way more important. DH sent a heartfelt email thanking everyone.
