@caitcat: I caved on my hard-held devotion to real Christmas trees only and bought a fake one just so we can put it up early. It'll be here Friday and it'll probably come out early next week.

@Mommy Finger: True! I've always wanted to have just pie for Thanksgiving so this feels like the perfect year. My kids are just young enough to have no expectations and DH doesn't care.

It's just our family this year, so I think it might finally be the year to just make pie. Although my son is lobbying for pizza. We may have pies, homemade pizza, sweet potato fries, cranberry sauce, and chex mix. Because why not?

@Corduroy: Just the 3 of us! We are making a Turkey breast, stuffing, scalloped potatoes, cranberry sauce, horseradish carrots, and Brussel sprouts. DW doesn’t like dessert (I know...) so I’m going to pick up a pie.

This is a great question. It's tough b/c it's the first holiday season after my grandma passed and she was where we always had our holidays. My mom was supposed to be the one who would take over for her but obviously the big family celebration isn't happening. We live close to my parents and they're in our bubble so we'll go to their house. We'll make a turkey breast and apparently a ham b/c that's what my mom already has in the freezer. We need to plan out the rest of the meal. We're talking about maybe ordering the sides from local restaurants to help support them b/c of everything that's going on. I'm guessing we'll have a video chat with my 3 brothers and their families. We talked about doing a contest like we did at Easter where we all made our own dessert and voted who's was the best but haven't gotten farther on that. Definitely will be strange but looking forward to being with my parents and will help my mom who will be missing her mom....

We're putting up our Christmas tree on Wednesday next week so that we can decorate it sometime during the day on Thanksgiving. My kids have been asking to put the tree up since Halloween, and this was about the earlier I could take!

I'm also planning to let the kids watch a few movies through the day so I can cook without them in my hair. I'm still excited to cook a lot, even though it's just the four of us...and my oldest daughter probably won't eat anything other than frozen chicken nuggets. :)

I'm actually kind of thrilled to not travel or host anyone this year for a change of pace.

It's just going to be the 4 of us but we plan on going all out. Last year I had jaw surgery 9 days before Thanksgiving and was still wired shut so I didn't get to enjoy any of it.

DH is going to smoke our turkey in his barrel smoker. I'm making roasted caramelized carrots, green been casserole, baked garlic mashed potatoes, stuffing and dinner rolls. For dessert we will have a decorate your own cupcakes station. I might also make some mini pies because I love pumpkin pie.

I will probably make some appetizers too. I found a yummy looking baked brie bread bowl that I want to try.

We also cut down our Christmas tree the day after so we will be getting the house ready for that.

We’re definitely scaling back to the things people like the most and I’m not feeling a need to live up to any traditions (I feel that way about a lot this year!). Maybe pork tenderloin instead of turkey because way easier and everyone eats it better. Then mashed potatoes (a special treat around here), old school green bean casserole, frozen rolls likely (although maybe I’ll get motivated to make them from scratch). Desserts will be courtesy of TJs! I love their cranberry tart that you just thaw. Maybe I’ll do a special breakfast for parade watching of chocolate croissants and cranberry bread or an egg casserole.

I've never made Thanksgiving dinner before, so this will be the first year and I'm taking a mish mosh approach to it. My pandemic hobby has been complicated cooking projects so I'm probably going to make too much but I'm excited. My daughter loves turkey, I'm neutral on it and my husband is a vegetarian so I'm going to make a turkey breast for her and I, potatoes for us all, stuffing from scratch (I love stuffing and am really excited to try making it myself rather than from a box), cranberry sauce from scratch (though I'll probably be the only one to eat it) and we'll buy some fixings to make my husband's family's traditional Thanksgiving dish (he's Indian and they typically make Indian street food for Thanksgiving). Still thinking about dessert, but probably will make a few different things. We are not traditional pie people so I'm thinking some cookies, shortbread and maybe a smores pie. We'll probably do a FaceTime call with everyone, tbd on that.

Thanksgiving will be just the four of us. With the exception of me, my family doesn't really love traditional Thanksgiving food, so I'm making a meal we'll all enjoy: roasted chicken, crescent rolls, and green beans with almonds. For dessert, though, we're going all out. Pumpkin pie for 3 out of 4 of us, and pecan bars for DH. Ice cream and whip cream for all. Pecan bars will be handed out to neighbors, too, because I don't need that many sweets in the house! We'll do a Zoom call with my whole family in the afternoon.

Our plans are still kind of up in the air so I'm tentatively planning for a just-our-household Thanksgiving. If it is just us I've been eyeing these as an alternative to a big turkey:
https://www.bonappetit.com/story/braised-turkey-legs-thanksgiving

Then I'd just make reasonable sized batches of our top sides and 1 dessert.

If you're doing Thanksgiving with just your household this year...

Are you doing anything to make it special? Are you making modifications to the meal? How are you connecting with distanced friends and family?
