@HolisticMama: I know you didn't mean to offend:) and I wasn't offended, but for the sake of knowledge and sharing, I wanted people to know that a 3-day fast and what Muslims do is completely different, so what the chiro said and the article said were irrelevant because they are 2 completely diff things. That being said, I too would raise an eyebrow at a chiro giving pregnancy dietary advice.
:))

@CupQuakeWalk: I didn't mean to offend. As I mentioned- I haven't dug into the research at all. It was just one of the first articles that came up when I googled fasting and pregnancy.

I would go back and edit, but I think it's worth keeping up for dialogue, because you make a very valid point. Being able to consume nutrients in the evening is very different then what my chiro office suggested of not eating at all for days. I definitely think the baby can pull what stores it needs for short periods of time, most definitely.

I really appreciate your insight. I especially think this knowledge could help women that even find trouble eating because of morning sickness.

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your thoughts.

@HolisticMama: Not trying to pick on you but: I don't know why you chose an Islamic pillar to compare to the 3-day fast your chiropractor talked to you about because they are extremely different. Just FYI-Fasting in Islam is only from sunrise to sunset and for 30 days. It can be safe, as I was told by my OB. Because I am Muslim, it was very important to me to get multiple opinions of fasting, as I was 8m along during Ramadan. Anyway- 2 diff doctors (my OB, and my family doctor) told me to go ahead as do it and only to stop if it "didn't feel right" (meaning: headaches or extreme thirst). So, I wouldn't write that advice off as complete nonsense. That being said: a chiropractor shouldn't be giving prenatal diet advice, yikes!

Here is a sweet one someone shared:
"Hearing something nice always kills a little stress for me, so here ya go: ever since you asked for good vibes a few weeks ago we have added "and please put a baby in Holistic's belly so she can be a mommy" to our nightly family prayers. The kids love it so much they frequently include it with meal blessings too. We send you good vibes several times a day"

@Crystal: I think I want to look a lot more into self-empathy. I've never really thought about it. I wonder if there are books on it.

I will actually share some of the awesome advice that people have given me today:

-Acupuncture, meditation, a walk through our forest to breathe in nature, a soothing cup of camomile tea, & a puff or two of weed.

- I recommend journaling privately, drawing, meditation, talking to a friend, daydreaming, massage trading with a friend, green tea (loose leaf!) and thinking through the situation. When my husband gets stressed or anxious, we walk through the best and worst case scenario, usually it puts it in perspective and he is able to relax.

- A cup of tea and my favorite book with calming music in the background - I love Brian Eno's "Music for Airports" album as a soothing backdrop.

- I can send you some drawing exercises if you would like to try drawing for relaxation! You just need a stick media (charcoal or pastels) and a newsprint pad (24 inch is good) or drawing pad if you might like to save your drawings

-Also, depending on the kind of stress, a hard run to some intense music tends to do wonders for me as well.

-drinking tea, taking a bath, making lists, stretching, cuddling an animal, hugging, smiling.

-Developing a relaxation ritual has been very helpful for me over the last couple of months. There is a fancy bath products store about a mile from our apartment. Every other week or so I walk there, smell everything and pick out a little something. Then I go home to soak. Favorite thing ever.

-Depending on what is causing my stress, I like: a giant cup of tea enjoyed in silence, painting my nails (forces me to be still), hot yoga, a long talk with a best friend, a swim (having my head underwater feels peaceful), a cry in the shower (maybe sounds unpleasant, but I find it completely cathartic).

-When I feel really bad, I hide under covers-my head too. I get less air and I calm down. May sound weird but it helps. Also if you feel really anxious, drink a big glass of water (room temperature) in one gulp. Your body can't be anxious and deal with all that water coming in at the same time

She also told me that it's totally safe to do a three day fast while pregnant. And while I haven't done TOO much research. I'm not sure how safe that is.

Someone posted this video on my facebook page today and I realized that it's one of the reasons why I appreciate all you ladies SO SO much.
You are are so empathetic.
I'm am so grateful that you "know what it's like down here."
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Evwgu369Jw

Today one of the staff at my chiropractor's office told me just "not to stress."

Which I thought about for quite sometime and realized...that's not really awesome advice.
Advice would be recommending some wonderful stress relieving tips or a cup of hot tea.

So do you ladies need to vent about any advice you have received lately?
