LO isn't even here yet and it irritates me. Instead of asking how I'm doing or how the pregnancy is progressing or how LO is doing, there are a few people who will say "how is my nephew? how is my grandson?" and it's just irritating.

I tell them MY son is doing just fine in MY belly lol.

It doesnt bother me at all. To me it just shows how much that person cares. Actually one of our really good family friends who I grew up with as almost a "second dad" recently passed away. He used to always say "Where are my babies" when I would stop by their house. Its one of my favorite memories of him and I tell my kids about that all the time. He had children and grandchildren of his own, but it just made me feel like he loved my babies as much as if they were his babies. Anyway it definitely doesnt bother me, especially if it is someone that I have a close relationship with.

I think g-parents do it without thinking and I know my mom adores my son so I don't let it bother me. She never tries to "steal him" and she's not a crazy grandparent at all. So it just doesn't bother me. But if I had a parent who was more controlling and always trying to be in our life every second then I could see how it would be an issue.

My own mother does it and I always correct her, just as a knee jerk reaction, for the exact same reason. I mean, I carried him for nine months. I pushed him out of my womb. Yes she was present during the entire thing but at the same time, he's mine. She's just the grandmother, gets to spoil him with love and send him home sort of thing. When she does it, it doesn't annoy me.

When my MIL does it when she's talking to her friends and acquaintances? It does annoy the heck out of me. She'll be talking to them while I'm standing there, holding him, and then blatantly make the claim. I think the difference is when my mom does it, we're at her house and just surrounded by family. When my MIL does it, we're in public and she's talking to someone else that's not related to us. It just irks me so much. I correct her too but I'm usually more adamant than I am when I talk to my mother.

But then again, I have some IL issues to begin with...

It doesn't bother me at all..my MIL frequently asks "How's my girl?" or "How's my N___?" It never even crossed my mind to be annoyed by it. She is their granddaughter after all..I don't walk around asking "How's my daughter?", I say "How's my girl?" so I wouldn't expect her to use granddaughter all the time.

haha. I would probably be annoyed too. My MIL says "how are my grandsons?" which I'm ok with... but if anyone just said how's my boy, or my girl i'd be annoyed and probably say "I don't know, I don't remember seeing your boy/girl here!"

My dad did that while I was pregnant and it bugged me. My awesome sister stopped him by saying "ew! That's gross, dad, she is definitely NOT carrying your baby!" He has since switched to a more reasonable "my grand baby."

Does it ever bug you when people ask you how THEIR baby is, and they're talking about your LO? This drives me nuts! My MIL and some of my friends do this. MIL will ask how her boys are doing. Um, they are my boys! I always respond, your grandsons... :) I've gotten better about it with her though I know its because she loves them so much. With friends, I just don't understand the thought behind that. I'm a little protective/possessive of my boys, can you tell?? I didn't see you carrying them for 9 months in your belly!
