@FliegepilzHut: He falls asleep pretty well. We have to rock him to sleep but lately he goes down easy and calmly. We've had a consistent bedtime routine for about 2 months now. As far as major development I don't think there's one right now. It seemed to have started when he was just learning to walk at 17ish months but never stopped even though he's now a pro walker.

@LovelyPlum: I don't think so. It was like this before we switched to a toddler bed. After the switch there was no change at all and he seems indifferent to his new bed. Haha

@tiramisu: He has a white noise machine we use every night. As for comfort objects, he has never had one. I've tried to push a lovey and he's not interested. His paci is kind of his comfort object though. He sleeps with it every night.

@gotkimchi: That's a good idea. He's getting to that age where he can understand. It's just gathering up the courage to be firm one night instead of tossing him in our bed and going back to sleep. Lol

I have a 2 year old who was randomly waking and screaming at night so we would let her in our bed and then no one would sleep. I think 2 is old enough to understand so I would talk up how you have to stay in your bed all night and get a toddler alarm clock. Then I would stick to it

Does he use a white noise machine? Or does he have a special comfort blanket he sleeps with? My daughter sleeps much much better with her sound machine on and blanket. Actually she can't go to bed without her blanket at all.

Oh geez, that sounds horrible. We had to sleep train during the 18 month regression, because she needed it. Do you think it could have something to do with the toddler bed? We tried one for a week, but sleep went downhill so quickly that we just put the crib back up. Since we've done that, she's back to sleeping 10 hours a night.

@artsyfartsy: How is he falling asleep? Everything I've read (about younger babies, anyway) suggests that the trouble connecting seep cycles is usually due to inconsistencies in the environment (how they fell asleep vs how they awoke)... Or is there some major developmental leap at that age?

Ugh. T used to be a reliable STTNer from an early age. Around 18 months things started to get not as consistent and by 20 months he was waking up every hour.

He goes down in his toddler bed just fine, but wakes up after a couple of hours and its downhill from there. We eventually started putting him in our bed so we could get some sleep. He'll be 2 in 2 days and it's just awful.

It's like he doesn't connect sleep cycles on his own at all now. We have to soothe him through each one, even when he's asleep in our bed. If we leave him on his own too long he'll either have a meltdown or wake himself up and be wide awake for HOURS.

Any advice? The couch is uncomfortable and so is being squeezed in a bed with a bed hogging toddler.
