Mine was hell too. Pre- smart phones, stuck in the lobby with a 1st gen Kindle, finished my book early and a Wendy Williams marathon on the tv. I felt so nauseous, headachey, and crummy for the rest of the day. They gave me a good tip to go get a turkey sandwich after since the protein would help regulate everything after. (I had to try two different places to get the sandwich since their card reader was down at the first place) That sandwich and a nap made me feel better. I still had to go back to a work meeting after, but it was one of the worst mornings of my pregnancy.

@MrsLilybugg: Yeah, they wouldn't let us drink water. My husband is diabetic and both he and his endocrinologist called BS on that. The woman tried to tell me that the amount of water in your blood would affect the test.

@avivoca: it's so strange how everyone has different guidelines! THey told me that water was OK to drink. Staring at the bubbler and NOT being able to drink really is a whole other level of torture!

I had to go right to the thee hour rest because of family history.

I remember feeling the same way. Cold and sweaty. The nurse was nice and said try not to throw up or you have to redo it! So I lied down and managed to make it.

Hopefully your sugar levels are good!

I'm going to ask to monitor my blood glucose for two weeks next time rather than sit through the tests. I had to take a day off of work for the 3-hour test. I felt so awful during it and I was so, so hungry/thirsty. Also, there was a water fountain next to the bathroom and seeing that wonderful water was just torture.

When I took the 3 hour test I brought books and planned to read the whole time. But there were 5 other girls who we're taking their test the same day and we all started within 30 mins of each other so we all talked the whole time. One of them was taking it for her second time since she had gotten sick the week before. I'm not sure if she made it through since I left early when I failed my 2 hour result. But she seemed fine when I left.

Yikes!! Glad there are alternatives so you don't have to repeat that again. Yuck!

I'm so sorry that happened. I had to do the 3 hour test too. I totally know what you mean about the breaking out into a cold sweat! I have no idea how I managed not to throw up. You're not a weakling! That test is terrible!

I failed the 1-hour glucose test, so they had me come in this week for the 3-hour test. I went in with some reading and my laptop, ready to get some work done for my class, with an "I got this" attitude, since I have never really dealt with the typical morning sickness/nausea/vomiting. I wasn't even hungry from fasting.

HA. About 5 minutes away from the first one-hour mark, I suddenly felt very light-headed and broke out in a cold sweat, and really thought I was going to pass out. Then BAM I started puking into a trash can. Thank goodness they put me in a separate waiting room! So they had to cancel the whole test because they wouldn't be able to trust the results. I've read other posts where as long as it was held down for 20 minutes they continue, but they refused to do that with me. Very annoying since it was a big production taking this block of time off.

Anyway, I asked my OB if there was an alternative plan for me, and they had me come in today for a blood sugar testing kit that I have to use for 2 weeks. I just test once in the morning (fasting), and one hour after breakfast, lunch, and dinner. (They gave me numbers to aim for too). So far for my first two readings, the numbers have been promising! THey're hopeful that this means I'll be cleared for GD. (The needle is quick, you don't see it, and barely feel it.)

In case others go through having to cancel the test due to getting sick/puking, the technician at the lab also told me that sometimes patients are given certain foods with same glucose value instead of the glucose drink for the test, too. And obviously patients go through their OBs for this, but just another option out there.

Did anyone else's test need to get canceled due to getting sick? I feel like I'm the only weakling! Oh and the entire rest of the day I felt nauseous and dizzy and mostly just laid down! I'm so lame.
