Wow! That's crazy! I just have to pay my usual $100 ER copay I believe.. We took our LO to the ER last month with pneumonia, I'm dreading those bills coming in. He had a chest x-ray - which means the cost of that + the radiologist + the pediatrician....

Wow! We ended up going to a clinic that was nearby and paid out of pocket. I think it was more like $300. Also forehead stitches...4.

@rachiecakes: I think they can start you on tamiflu so yes its probably worth getting the test.

This is why we switched to a HMO plan. We don't have enough disposable income to deal with these large bill. Now an ER visit is a flat $200 fee no matter what.

@LuLu Mom: ugh!

I went to the doctor's last month for a cold and it was $120 after insurance. $40 co-pay and $80 for a flu test that was negative (and do they really do anything different for the flu?!). Our insurance is pretty good, too.

Stitches, obviously, you have to go but I won't be going to the doctor for a cold again!

I feel ya... We got sent to the emergency room awhile back by an off-hours ped, and 4 hours later, strep diagnosis and $750 bill (we do have high deductible plan); reallllllly? My policy is now that a doctor better do a flu and strep test in office before sending me to the ER.

I just have to vent on this one. Our 3 1/2 year old had to get stitches in her forehead last month, we went to the ER because our ped's office said with the location and depth of the cut, they would be better suited. WE got our EOB in the mail and it is costing us the same as my C-section! :shocked:

I'm shocked, they considered the stitches surgery, so for our 1 hour visit to the ER, we are leaving with an over $700 bill (after insurance.) we have really good insurance too so that's not the problem. Oye!
