This totally happened to me with my wedding, way before Pinterest existed! I kept seeing things on Weddingbee and thinking they were overdone. I nearly killed myself trying to unique, when in reality none of the things I was avoiding were overdone in my IRL circle, LOL!

haha, yes totally! BUT on the plus side - since the other people in my life don't tend to browse pinterest/blogs etc I feel like it's ok to go with things like this (e.g. we are painting trees on the nursery wall, and I want to do book ledges) and our friends/fam will probably all think it's really unique and cool! ;-)

Ha ha. I totally know what you mean. You tire of a trend without even being apart of it.

Yes, I do this too. But even if it's overdone on the web, I'll still do it if it's something I really like. Before I was really on Pinterest a lot or searching up nurseries, I thought I had this original idea of doing a modern zoo animal (elephants, giraffes, lions, etc) theme for the nursery. ha! Then I start looking for inspiration and I saw them everywhere! It didn't stop me though. I still have elephants in the nursery and chevron curtains.

@Foodnerd81: my mom will see something she really likes in a magazine and I'm always telling her that it is so pinterest last year. :) I know exactly what you mean.

Yeah, but I just pick and choose what I like and do it anyway! Fortunately not all trends appeal to me anyway, and we all have a personal style that shines through.

I like chevrons, but Pinterest makes me feel like I'm the only person on earth not super in love with them. ;)

@Running Elley: Funny you say gray and yellow nursery-- I've been thinking that since before we knew where to live or had really thought about the nursery at all, and I thought I was all original-- obviously I've seen it online and just forgot! That probably is the color scheme we'll do though, since the walls in the baby's room are already yellow and we are team green-- so yup, just your typical gray and yellow nursery with a gray and white chevron rug. :)

I thought the same thing about cupcakes with weddings-- and I've been to one wedding with cupcakes and it was awesome :) We did the thumbprint tree thing and SO many people complimented me on what an original idea it was... I was like, yeah... I did not think this up on my own, but thanks.

ETA: I just remembered-- we have a little owl piggy bank for the baby, and I've been obsessed with elephants for years, *before* they were so popular in nurseries... so yup... not original.

Omgosh yes!!! 99% of the things I see on Pinterest I've never seen IRL, but totally feel they're over done! Lol

I guess I just need to ask myself if I've ever really seen an idea before nixing it!

@Foodnerd81: Yepp that's definitely happened to me before. When we were planning our wedding and having cupcakes I was so worried that people would think it was overdone (I did because I'd seen it a billion times on WB) but everyone thought it was such a cool and "new" idea. Phew.

I feel that way about chevron in nurseries and grey and yellow nurseries too (I love both and I ended up still going with grey and yellow in our nursery...I just added green too for a pop!).

Totally agree - I want a book wall so badly in my nursery but feel like EVERYONE has one since it's all over pinterset. But no one I know IRL has one - so I'm going to do it.

ETA: I'm doing chevron in my nursery....I love it (especially since I'm team green, it feels neutral to me). I feel like it's EVERYWHERE but I think it's just starting to come to my area. I don't know anyone IRL who has chevron in their house anywhere yet, let alone the nursery.

Do you ever see something-- a design element or whatever-- so many times online, on Pinterest or blogs, that you think it is overdone, even when you have never seen it in person?

For example, I've seen and liked so many nurseries with chevron-- rugs, curtains, sheets, whatever, that I'm starting to think, 'oh, but everyone does that, it's too trendy'-- even though I have yet to see a single person I know IRL use it in their house at all, much less a nursery. When we were wedding planning, it was candy buffets-- I saw them all over Wedding Bee and other blogs, so I felt like it was overdone, even though I have STILL never been to a wedding with a candy buffet. It's so silly! Does that happen to you or am I just weird?

For the record-- I still very well may do chevron in the nursery, because I like it and I'm not that crazy :)
