I asked my mom to since it was right around our anniversary. She had previously volunteered to watch her overnight at some point, so I asked if she'd be willing that specific weeknight.

It wouldn't hurt to ask, especially since your parents are comfortable watching her during the day. The first time I had to leave LO overnight was for my friend's wedding, and I asked my in-law's to watch him. He was almost 2 years old, and everyone is scared to watch him due to his allergies and eczema. I made sure to provide all the food and instructions for care.

First time MIL offered, she said we needed our sleep. But we ask whenever we need a babysitter; we alternate between the two mom's so it's even. They both get excited, so we don't feel bad about overnights.

My parents live 3 hrs away so we just asked if they wanted to babysit overnight. First time we went to a marriage conference (DD was 18m) and second time a self-defense course (DD was 30m and DS was 8w). They said no problem but that they preferred to do it at our house instead of theirs, which worked out just fine.

We left DD with my parents overnight when she was about 3.5 months old. We were at their house on vacation and wanted to go away for a night. We stayed in a hotel, DD stayed with them. It was INCREDIBLE. But I still didn't STTN. :crying:

When we mentioned we were thinking about taking a trip for our birthdays they immediately said "Well we get the keep M right??" She'll be older though, 18 months. It will be 5 days / 4 nights and they are flying down to stay at our house so they can send her to day care on the week days (we didn't want to disrupt her schedule any more than necessary).

Now we just have to figure out how to inform my in laws because they will probably pitch a fit that we asked my parents instead of them.

DH's sister & husband kept our 3 month old twins last weekend. It was part of my Christmas present, a weekend away (we were only about 45mins away in case we were needed, etc). It was a-may-zing! She was thrilled to do it and had been looking forward to it since Christmas!

We haven't done it yet, but I texted my MIL and asked if E could "stay for a sleepover" in April because I'm getting Dh concert tickets for his bday. She said she would love to.

I've long learned that if you want something, you have to ask for it :) (and i knew she would be open to it--her other two grandkids sleep over, too!)

The first time was over the holidays since I had to work, so around 16 months old. He stayed with my parents for 3-4 days. They offered long before we took them up on it since they do the same for my brother's family. It was nerve wracking at first for me. LO loved it there and had a great time. We're doing it again in March for a wedding.

Well, I just emailed my parents to see if they could watch C when we go to a wedding in October... I like to plan ahead :)

The first time DH had to travel after C was born my mom came up and stayed with me for the weekend. I think I asked her to but she didn't mind.

Did you ask your family if they would take LO or did they offer? How old were they?

My parents watch LO usually one afternoon per week so Dh and I can spend time together. They have offered to have her longer, say from morning to evening, most of the day, but we haven't felt the need to leave her that long yet. We have a wedding to travel to in July where we will have to stay overnight. It would be amazing if my parents could have her so we didn't need to take her, but I'm not sure how to approach asking them. LO will be 10mths. I don't know what her sleep will be like then obviously, but at the moment she goes down without a peep at 6pm and sttn, so hopefully they wouldn't need to do much extra!
