@78H20: are your pump flanges the right size? I struggled was told to go up a size in flanges by several LC/LLL leaders etc so I did and struggled with sore boobs. On my own i went down a size (21m in Medela) and not only is the soreness gone but I'm pumping more milk than I ever did before. I currently pump enough for DS' bottles plus a couple ounces extra each day.

@bunnylove08: Those are some good tips. I never have a problem with supply when I'm with E and nursing, and I def feel like the pump isn't doing as good of a job as it used to. And not that I needed one, but it's a good excuse to eat more chocolate :-p

@78h2o: Sleep is definitely an issue, but there just aren't enough hours in the day. Knock on wood, E is starting to sleep a little better and only waking up once in the night. So, hopefully he will continue on that path and I can get some much needed ZZZZs. Maybe I'll have to try baking some lactation cookies this weekend. I am a horrible baker though, lol.

I've limped along this week and been able to keep up by using the milk I pump in the morning before work to top off his bottles for the day. Thank goodness it's almost friday and I'll maybe be able to put something in the freezer that I won't need to thaw out for Monday.

I know you've probably thought of this but oatmeal has been super helpful for me. Also, I tend to make more milk when I pump fewer times but for longer since I get the second let-down after about 15 minutes or so. Best wishes and congrats for making it so far!

@bunnylove08: Thanks so much for that link... I am going to try some of those things. My LO almost always seems satisfied when I nurse, but I struggle to get enough milk for her when I pump and I've been wondering how much of the problem is supply vs. pumping. It's been very touch and go since I started back to work, but so far I'm managed to avoid supplementing. I have zero freezer stash and it's scary! I do have about 10 extra ounces in the fridge now, but that's it.

@kiddosc: I totally sympathize! Kudos for making it 10 months! Drinking enough water has been a big deal for me, but you're already doing that! I've heard that a non-alcoholic beer with brewer's yeast can help, but haven't tried that yet. I did make lactation cookies with a ton of brewers yeast and I thought that helped a little. Sleep also seems to affect my supply a lot - are you getting enough? Maybe doing more skin-to-skin?

I was in the same boat as you. I still do not have a freezer stash and DD is on formula when she is with her babysitter and nurses when she is with me.

I plan on making some lactation cookies, I got the brewer's yeast from amazon.

Someone posted this on my neighborhood parents board. Its about how you might have a supply but you just cant pump. http://www.facebook.com/l.php?u=http%3A%2F%2Fhygeiainc.com%2Fmy-milk-supply-is-great-but-i-just-cant-pump%2F%23sthash.EOJkBbSY.wpwmsgJ6.dpbs&h=iAQHLyVaz

Maybe these tricks might help with pumping. Good luck!

I think all the supplements mentioned above are great suggestions. There was a time when I was very low in my freezer stash. I added another pump (but it sounds like you are already pumping quite a bit) at work and that helped tremendously (even just a short one). I also went out and bought a small container of formula and told myself that if I had to top off a bottle with it, it wouldn't be the end of the world. I never had to use it, but having it really helped me psychologically. Stress doesn't help pumping output, so I hope you are able to not stress too much about it. Good luck!!

@kiddosc: Anywhere really. You should be able to get it at any of those stores, GNC, and even some grocery stores have it!

Goat's rue helps with milk supply, if you can take that.

Also, you can provide breastmilk to your child for a year easily if you are open to supplementing with formula a little (not sure if that is something you are open to or not)

@kiddosc: I hadn't heard that about RRL team but know it shouldn't be used for long periods of time. I found Brewer's yeast at whole foods but you should be able to find it in the organic or nutritional supply area of grocery stores, on amazon or vitamin specialty stores

@anbanan15: we have several health food, nutritional supplement places around us, so I may have to check one out. Do you know where you can get brewers yeast?

@Ms.SK: where did you find that?

@purrpletulips: I heard that was bad for milk supply. Ugh, its hard to keep it all straight.

Oh no! Hoping for a good milk week!!

I ate a lot of quinoa. Fennel is also believed to help...I roasted fennel bulbs and made a fennel tea from the seeds and fronds. You may also want to try blessed thistle. Brewer's yeast is also believed to help....it is an ingredient in some lactation cookie recipes. Good luck!

We have a pharmacy nearby with a lot of vitamins and their staff there helped me pick out some things that are supposed to help with lactation. Do you have anything like that?

My supply has been slowly but surely dwindling ever since I went back to work. I've been able to struggle through it for 8 months (E is 10 months, I went back to work when he was 2 months) by pumping 5x a day and using frozen milk every so often. I never had much of a stash though, and now it's officially gone. I'm trying not to freak out and hold out hope this will be a good milk week, but it's hard to do that.

I can't take anything with fenugreek in it, since it gives me and E digestive upset. So MMP, mother's milk tea, and fenugreek capsules are all out. I eat oatmeal every day and drink more than a gallon of water. Does anyone have an other suggestions for boosting supply? I really wanted to make it to a year.
