@Boheme: @allison: Thanks! Now that I'm 3 days in, I'm understanding how this can be ok and how it's still worth it!

Ok, so, of my very limited menu testing, so far our favourite meal is the Asian Nacho's! They were AMAZING.

We always skip the salad meals (vegetarian plan). I just hate eating a salad for a main course.

I'll be honest, there's usually at least one meal per week that is just soooo lackluster. Not enough seasoning, etc. It makes me wonder if the people planning these meals actually try them out/taste them! The plan saves me a ton of hassle and frustration re: shopping, so we'll stick with it. But I haven't been super impressed.

@TemperanceBrennan: Thanks! :) We have my step kids for dinner tonight and we are starting a "this is what's for dinner, eat it" attitude, and I am REALLY hoping they like at least... something! haha

Our current meal plan with the boys is fries? chicken fingers? perogies? Mac n' cheese? haha it's really starting to wear on us.

@travelgirl1: I'm not a huge salad person in general, so I welcome the fall. Glad to hear you liked the chicken - we might do this week's plan next week so I can shop on Thursday.

@TemperanceBrennan: I just started this last night! We had the Scallion Meatballs with Brown Rice & Snow Peas. We dislike brown rice so we just made regular rice, but everything was SO GOOD. I was so impressed. Tonight we are having the Pesto Crusted Mahi Mahi with Roasted Potatoes & Broccoli. I couldn't find mahi mahi so we are having halibut. Can't wait! :D

@Espion: That sucks, but I totally know the feeling. I couldn't eat cupcakes (cupcakes!!!) for a while because DH left leftovers in a casserole container with a lid and put them back into the cabinet thinking the container was clean. It was a mess when I found them MONTHS later.

I looked at the archives and downloaded a ton of weeks. But I haven't done a meal plan in about a month, because (and I know this is going to sound super weird) the last week I made had a heavy emphasis on artichokes, olives and capers. And that did NOT sit well with my first trimester tummy. I never had morning sickness, but that week was the closest I got. Now I think Fresh 20 = BLARRRGH! Which I know it isn't true, but it is an awful mental block. :(

@swurlygurl: We've only done two meals this past week - the turkey burger and taco salad (I was traveling for work) and DH really loved the turkey burger. I thought it was good. Don't over cook it, two burgers dried out pretty badly because we didn't pay attention to the grill.
The taco salad was good too and our croutons turned out really good. I make them bigger so they are crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside and they were great on the salad. The dressing was a little too lime-y for me, so I add more sour cream and a splash of buttermilk. I'm excited to make the chile rellenos tonight.

Just checked out this week's menu and wow, it looks really good too!

How was last week's plan? When I went grocery shopping last week I accidentally bought groceries for the plan from the week before because I had both lists in my planner and had skipped that week (good thing, because that was a delicious week!)
This new week looks pretty good - wondering if I should skip last week, or just stay a week behind until there's a boring week.

@MrsTiger: We bought a rice cooker (the $30 Aroma from Target) and use it to make the rice the night it's needed. I usually prep everything before I go to work, and start it right when I get home. We also do half white rice, and half brown rice because I like the texture of white better. For the stuff that we do reheat, we follow the directions like Grizz mentioned, and I keep it covered in the microwave.

The basic schedule is seafood (fish, shrimp, scallops, etc) on Tuesday. Vegetarian meal on Friday, two other meats throughout the week. One you usually cook on Monday and use leftovers for another meal.

Pork is used occasionally, but there are easy substitutions if needed. There is a variety usually a wide variety of meat types and cuts.

ETA: We don't do the vegetarian meals. Not enough protein for us, and we usually eat out on Fridays anyway, so it work out for us to only use four of the five meals.

A possible prep tip for this week (Gluten-Free):

So this week, you need turkey patties for meal #1 and meal #3. You make all the turkey patties @ meal #1 and save half for meal #3. But, then at meal #3 you crumble up the patties for a taco salad?! I think I'm just only going to cook half the patties @ meal #1 and cook the rest of the ground turkey mixture without forming into patty shape/flipping for meal #3 - that way I don't have to crumble patties, and maybe have a better turkey texture for the salad.

ETA: Also, def using store-bought croutons and not making my own!

@PurplePeony: The meat for this week is turkey, tilapia and lamb. Lamb - wtf? I'll prob substitute pork for that meal, but there's no other chicken this week so you could do lamb or chicken and it wouldn't be too much chicken!

@swurlygurl: thanks! Some other meal planning sites I've seen seem to rely pretty heavily on it, and we'd end up eating a TON of chicken if we substituted for those meals as well as had the chicken meals on the plan. But 2-3 times a month is totally doable.

Stalking. I have the sample week but I haven't tried it yet. It was a hectic day on grocery day this last run and neither one of us were up for a huge change yet. We are seriously considering it though! Maybe next week!!

We've fallen off the wagon on clean/healthy eating so that's why it would be a big change.

@PurplePeony: Not too often that I've seen! I don't think it'd be a huge deal to sub with chicken either. In my limited 2-month span I would guess I've seen it... 2 or 3 times? I could be wrong, but that's all I'm remembering.
Once you needed ground pork for a meal, and it was too $$ so I just bought ground turkey. Once we needed pork chops but the store I went to didn't have any, so I just did chicken breasts.
