It is really tough!! And every time I slip and say "he" (because we think it's a boy) so that I don't have to say "it", family who know we are team green are like - oh do you know something you're not telling us?? like we're keeping a big secret or something.

My SIL refers to her baby as "he" because she's team green.... even though she thinks it's a she.

We all have 20 weeks where we don't know and have that awkwardness! I called my LO "the baby" until we found out.

For both my pregnancies, I've referred to LO as "baby" since we are team green. I found it hard after DD was born to stop calling her baby all the time; hoping to not do that this time.

Story of my life lately!! I, too, have resorted to "she" and even thought of her as my "daughter" a few times. I sure am going to be surprised when it's a boy!

I agree! We have the advantage of speaking French at home so we use the generic pronoun "il" which is the gender of the word bébé, since there is no "it" in French. But when I speak English it does feel strange to call the baby "it". Not so much at first but now that I'm in the home-stretch it feel very impersonal for someone who has become a pretty big part of our lives.

I'm the bad future-mom who just calls it "it." I do find myself wanting to know more and more as the weeks go on, but I'm excited for the surprise and think it'll be worth it. When we talk to my belly we say things like "Hi baby! It's your dad/mom!" but I think calling the baby "it" is just one of the many ways we haven't fully grasped that we're going to be parents. Plus I'm super-paranoid about something bad happening between now and then and this is sort of my ridiculous way of not "jinxing" things.

I use "the baby" and "they." We're only having one, which throws people for a loop whenever I talk about LO. But it does keep things nicely neutral!

Yeah, "it" is so cold and impersonal. We started out calling by whatever fruit it was that week "my little blueberry, my little lemon" etc. Then for a bit s/he was "Frances" because it was a gender neutral name that wasn't on our short list. DH stopped liking it pretty fast, though. Now we go between Aerin and McBebe, but it would be soooo nice to be able to say "he" or "she" (which we do sometimes, but I try to make an effort to use both).

I know that feeling all too well! Even though I know it's what I want, not knowing the sex is so, so hard from so many different perspectives. I also get so paranoid when I go to the doctor and they refer to the baby as a specific gender (even though they know we do not want to know)... they seem to say "he" a lot and of course I am reading into this! I should really ask if that's just the standard pronoun or if they are just letting the cat out of the bag!!!!

I'm 23+1. Every now and then I really want to know (like when we talk about names... it would be SO MUCH easier to just think about one gender!). But then I remind myself how awesome it will be to have my husband say to me "We have a son!" or "We have a daughter!" and I'm totally confident in the decision to stay team green.

@MamaMoose: I can totally relate. Lately I've just been saying "the baby" alot. I try not to use he/she to often and I usually feel weird saying he/she because what if I'm wrong? I really think Baby B is a boy but DH has been thinking girl. How far along are you? I am 29+1 and the closer we get the more I WANT to know. It's sort of killing me at this point.

Is trying to use pronouns when talking about the baby!! I just can't call my baby "it". I try to just rotate between he and she at random. But lately both my husband and I have really been thinking it's a girl so I've been saying "she" all the time. But I need to stop!! I don't want us to get in the habit of expecting a certain gender because then we'll be totally caught off guard when the baby comes if we weren't right!
