My sister! She's great with kids and has worked at a daycare for years. I get all sorts of judgement and eye rolling over the way I do things.

I quit my last job after maternity leave but I had a coworker like this. She made a lot of comments about my pregnancy including telling me that LO would have autism because I was drinking a Diet Coke. For real.

I used to love Supernanny but now I think it's weird she doesn't have children.

ugh there's a dear friend in our circle who does this. it drives me and all the other moms completely batty. she works with special needs children and somehow, thinks it's the same as raising a baby or your own child. she doles out advice constantly and "corrects" us... we've just learned to tune her out at this point.

I have a coworker that will totally be like this when LO comes, but in her defense, if I'm flipping out over my kid going down for bedtime 10 minutes late (something a lot of my friends like to do), I will fully appreciate her keeping it real!

My SIL - we don't speak any more at least in part for this reason. She totally knows what it's like to have a baby and it was obviously easier for us to travel an hour+ each way with a baby that screamed the entire car ride and wouldn't sleep than for 3 adults to make the same trip. And if they do have to suffer through that trip, the baby better not need to nap or nurse during the visit. I mean they can just do it later, right?

These are all crappy!

I know some are well meaning but even the ones that work for children's organizations (not directly with kids) and their article posting kind of annoys me... With their "but it's so simple!" attitude! (Don't get me wrong some of them give good advice though!) Or teacher friends who like to comment on their students' parents. Ugh. Thank goodness I don't really get direct comments from childless people anymore! When lo was a baby I think people were more apt to speak up.

@SweetiePie: me too!! I worked in a daycare and baby sat for years! And have an 11mo who woke up 7 times last night. Obviously I'm doing awesome, haha.

But seriously, I didn't quite realize the difference between being good with kids, and being good with the complete identity shift and total responsibility that comes with parenting. I do think all my kid time helped for SURE, but it just can't compare to the all consuming ness of parenting.

@jedeve: I still cringe when I think about my response in an infant care class we took. The teacher asked our class of about 8 couples to go around and state on a scale of 1-10 how knowledgable/comfortable we were with babies. I said I was an 8 since I have 2 nephews that I've been around (for like a couple of hours at a time). She sort of smiled and nodded and probably thought to herself "you're in for it!"
I literally thought about that the night we brought him home and felt humiliated. Hahahaha.
ETA: Else in the class that they were like two or three and I think one set of four. That's why it's so embarrassing because I thought that I was OMGsoadvanced with babies. :silly:

These are obnoxious, but I find the daycare teacher know-it-alls to be even more annoying. One pretends she is a nurse and "diagnoses" DS all the time. She aline has cost me 4 vacation days for false alarms. I feel like she is always trying to find a way to send him home and always has a strong opinion on how I should handle things.

Yes! She's my husband's annoying friend!

I am reposting because she drives me nuts AND she is coming to visit in two weeks!!!

She visited us when my son was around 5 mo. She (1) told me that she knows what it's like to be a parent because she has a dog (2) we had just started the baby on solids and I was concerned that my husband was giving him pieces that were large enough to be a choking hazard, and she told me not to worry bc she is an MD and knows CPR and would he just as concerned as I would about saving the baby if he chokes (?!) and (3) We waited too long to go out for dinner and the baby wound up being impossibly fussy because it was his bedtime. She told me that she had gone out for dinner with mutual friends of our in another city when their daughter was around the same age. Their daughter had behaved well so she suggested I contact them to find out what they did. Because obviously there is a single magic trick to getting any overtired 5mo to stop fussing in a restaurant. (4) She -- a former family doctor! who is not a parent! -- criticized me behind my back to my husband for choosing to breastfeed and said it was a waste of my time.
