Our coughs drag on and on. Once I took my LO after 3 weeks just to make sure. But there was nothing they could do. As long as she is in OK spirits I say wait it out.

After 3 weeks I might call the ped but I don't think I'd go in unless there were other symptoms. I really hate the linger cough though, it's so annoying!!

My son had the lingering cough (actually, we all do right now) but it didn't seem to bother him so we left it, until Monday when it got worse and kept him up at night. Yesterday we took him to the doctor and apparently he has an ear infection - not sure that would cause the cough, but hopefully the antibiotics will clear it up anyway,.

For just a cough, I would not go to the doctor. Other symptoms would have to crop up alongside the cough to warrant a visit to the pediatrician for me.

We've had coughs since Thanksgiving, it's been awful this winter. I've taken them in a couple times when other symptoms show up (fever, vomiting, etc.) We've had "well" visits during this time and always here the same thing... " it's viral, you just have to wait it out" I'm so sick of "it's viral!"

I hate that cough - it lasted about 4 weeks in our house... I hope she gets over it soon.

DS has lingering coughs for months. Sucks so bad! We give him Allegra to help battle the drainage, but otherwise, we just tough it out. Poor kid!

Coughs can linger for weeks--it sucks!! :( If it's not getting worse, then I would prob not go to the doctor.

Ugh, this is so annoying isn't it. We are kind of in the same boat. My son has been congested and somewhat snotty for a few weeks too. His voice changed about 5 days ago and sort of sometimes complains that his throat hurts but no fever and acting completely normal. My husband is going to take him to the ped today to get checked out. Last year he had strep throat and our only indication was the change in voice so we are just going to get it all checked out.

My girls have been hit hard this winter, there is so much going around right now in our area! My oldest has had a lingering cough for about 2 weeks, it's not keeping her up at night, and it's loose, but it doesn't seem to get any better. When do you make the decision to go to the doctor? I'm guessing there is not much we can do for her and it would be a waste of a visit, but i also don't want to miss something major that we could have helped.
