@JennyD: What'd you think of the show?

And I actually have that book!!! I just haven't read it yet! I need to find it and give it a try!

@Adira: I'm watching it now. I saw trailers for it and it looked interesting.

You might enjoy Margaret Atwood's "Hand Maid's Tale". Somewhat similar concept. A true classic, with feminist and environmental themes.

@Raindrop: Oh, haha, you're so sweet! :D

Yeah, I think The Lottery is produced by the same people that did Children of Men or something similar. Maybe the same writer? I forget, but there's definitely a connection between the two besides the similar story!

But yes, it's an interesting concept! I hope we never have to experience this in our lifetime (or ever) because infertility is so heartbreaking - I can't imagine how horrible that must be if everyone in the world experiences it. Not to mention the ramifications it would have for the human race!

@Adira: LOL it's actually more that I hate when a thread gets 0 replies. It makes me kind of sad for the thread... I know it makes no sense! :)

I did see children of men and a lot of the online articles that reviewed the lottery mentioned that. I'm not sure if this will happen to us in our lifetime but it is interesting to think about because with 1 out 4 couples infertile right now ... it makes you wonder but it could be that people are more open about their infertility then ever before. :)

@Raindrop: haha, I always find it so funny when people read spoiler threads who haven't even watched the show!

Have you seen Children of Men? It's a similar concept that everyone in the world becomes infertile and so there's the fear of human extinction.

I had no idea what you were talking about so I just googled it. Sounds like an interesting show. I will have to check it out. :)

That's kind of sad that there are only 6 - 6 year olds left in the world and the 100 eggs that the doc got fertilized is being lottery offed.

I mean I always wanted to have kids. I'm not sure what I would do if I was in this world. Very interesting concept.

So I just finished watching the first episode of The Lottery (Lifetime, Sundays at 10:00 p.m.) and I really liked it!

BUT... I don't understand the "suicide" situation. If the world is in a fertility crisis and they know of an egg donor who's egg was viable, WHY would they kill her off????? It just makes NO sense! What if more of her eggs are viable???
